Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Lithonia Daybright D-AA650BX4 Series — 4.8V Ni-MH Replacement Battery (OSA152)
This is a 4.8V 2000mAh Ni-MH replacement battery pack for the Lithonia Daybright D-AA650BX4 and D-AA650BX4 LONG emergency lighting units. It slots into the fitting in place of the original OSA152 cell pack and powers the lamp during mains failure. Capacity is 2000mAh (9.6Wh), matching the original specification.
- D-AA650BX4 and D-AA650BX4 LONG compatibility: Both units share the same 4.8V four-cell sub-C Ni-MH configuration, identical connector pinout, and the same charge controller float voltage. The same pack fits both without modification.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this pack through the D-AA650BX4 charge controller and confirmed the BMS accepted the cell voltage on first connection. The charge indicator transitioned from red to green within the expected window, and the pack held load across a full test-button activation cycle.
- First installation test cycle: Within 24 hours of fitting, hold the test button for the full rated duration. This confirms the new cells accept load and lets the charge controller register actual cell capacity before your next scheduled compliance test.
Charge indicator staying red after new battery installation
Ni-MH cells shipped in partial-discharge state often sit outside the narrow float acceptance window the D-AA650BX4 charge controller expects on first connection. The controller reads the resting voltage, decides the cell is faulty, and holds the fault state without starting the charge cycle. Leave the fitting powered for 12–24 hours before drawing any conclusions — most controllers will re-sample and begin charging once the cell voltage drifts into range. If the indicator is still red after 24 hours of continuous mains power, measure the pack voltage directly; a healthy starting voltage should be at or above 4.0V.
Emergency light dims or cuts out partway through the duration test
A new pack that has not completed a full charge cycle will show rated voltage at rest but sag quickly under the lamp load during a test. This is not a cell defect — it is a shallow initial charge from storage. The fix is straightforward: allow a minimum 24-hour uninterrupted charge on mains before running the duration test. If the light still dims after that conditioning period, check the charge controller output with a multimeter; the trickle charge voltage to the pack should read between 5.4V and 5.8V across the terminals.

Frequently Asked Questions
My Lithonia Daybright D-AA650BX4 failed its annual duration test right after I put in the new battery — what went wrong?
A freshly installed Ni-MH pack has not yet reached its rated capacity because it ships in a partially discharged state. The charge controller needs at least 24 hours of continuous mains power to bring the cells up to a full charge before they can sustain load for the full rated duration. Run a manual test cycle by holding the test button only after that 24-hour conditioning window. If the unit still fails the duration test after proper conditioning, measure the pack voltage under load — it should not drop below 4.0V during activation.
The fitting's fault LED is still on even though the new OSA152 battery is correctly installed and the charge indicator has gone green — is the fitting broken?
Some D-AA650BX4 fittings latch a fault LED in hardware and will not clear it automatically even after the underlying condition is resolved. This is a controller logic behaviour, not a sign the new pack is faulty. Power the fitting down at the circuit breaker, wait 30 seconds, then restore mains — this forces the controller to re-initialise and re-read the pack state from scratch. If the fault LED clears after that power cycle, the battery and fitting are both functioning correctly.
The old battery pack in my D-AA650BX4 was visibly swollen when I removed it — what caused that and do I need to do anything before fitting the new one?
Swelling in a Ni-MH pack installed in an emergency light fitting is almost always the result of years of continuous trickle charging at elevated temperature inside a sealed luminaire body. The charge controller applies a float charge indefinitely, and heat from the lamp or the environment accelerates cell degradation and outgassing. Before fitting the replacement, check the interior of the battery compartment for electrolyte residue or deformed contact clips — clean any residue with isopropyl alcohol and straighten or replace bent contacts. Also confirm the fitting's ventilation slots are clear, as blocked airflow is the main driver of the temperature condition that caused the original failure.
