Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.
Delivery and Shipping
Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Lithonia Daybright D-AA650BX4 Squared Shape — 4.8V Ni-MH Replacement Battery (OSA152)
This 4.8V, 2000mAh Ni-MH battery replaces the original cell pack in the Lithonia Daybright D-AA650BX4 Squared Shape emergency lighting unit. It fits the D-AA650BX4 and compatible it Signs fixtures. Voltage and capacity match the OEM specification (OSA152 / CUSTOM-145-10) so the charge controller recognises the new cell without modification.
- D-AA650BX4 and it Signs compatibility: These fixtures share a 4.8V charge rail and the same four-cell NiMH sub-C configuration. The connector pinout and BMS float voltage are identical across the D-AA650BX4 Squared Shape and the it Signs range, so one cell pack fits both without rewiring.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this pack through a full mains-fail simulation on a D-AA650BX4 unit. The charge controller accepted the new cell, stepped through its inrush phase without tripping, and held float voltage within the expected 5.4–5.6V window. No fault LED triggered.
- First-cycle conditioning for compliance tests: Within 24 hours of installation, hold the test button for the full rated duration. A fresh cell from storage has not been through a charge-discharge cycle and will underperform on a compliance duration test until it has. One full test cycle lets the charge controller register actual cell capacity before a scheduled inspection.
Charge indicator staying red after new battery installation
The D-AA650BX4 charge controller checks incoming cell voltage before switching from bulk charge to float. A cell that has been in storage drops below the float acceptance window — typically under 4.2V open circuit — and the controller interprets this as a fault rather than a depleted cell. Leave the unit on mains power for a full 24 hours. Most controllers on this fitting will transition to green once the cell clears 4.6V and holds it for two consecutive sample intervals.
Emergency light dims partway through a duration test
Dimming mid-test on a freshly installed cell is a conditioning issue, not a cell defect. NiMH cells shipped from storage have partial crystalline buildup that limits current delivery until the first full discharge cycle burns it off. The cell voltage collapses under load before the rated capacity is actually exhausted. Run one complete test cycle — full charge, then full test-button discharge to cutoff — and recharge for 24 hours before the next compliance test.

Frequently Asked Questions
The emergency light passed installation but failed the timed duration test at the next inspection — the light cut out early. Why?
A new NiMH cell needs one full charge-discharge cycle before it delivers rated capacity under load. Cells shipped from storage carry partial charge and surface crystallisation that reduces discharge depth on the first run. Hold the test button until the light cuts off automatically, then leave the unit on mains for a full 24-hour recharge before the inspection. The second test cycle will reflect true cell capacity.
The fitting still shows a fault LED after I confirmed the new battery is installed correctly and the connector is seated. How do I clear it?
Some Lithonia D-AA650BX4 fittings latch a fault LED in hardware and do not auto-clear when the fault condition is resolved. Disconnect mains power to the fitting for 10 seconds, then reconnect — this forces a controller reset and clears the latched fault register. If the LED returns within 30 minutes, check that cell voltage at the connector reads above 4.2V before the controller begins its charge cycle.
The battery pack swelled inside the fitting and I can't get it out cleanly — is this a heat issue?
NiMH cells in enclosed emergency fittings swell when the trickle charge current continues at elevated ambient temperature over several years. The D-AA650BX4 housing traps heat, and a degraded cell with rising internal resistance generates more heat per charge cycle, accelerating swelling. Cut mains power at the circuit breaker before handling a swollen pack — never force it. Once removed, inspect the charge contacts for corrosion caused by any electrolyte weeping before fitting the replacement cell.
