New arrival
Sale priceFrom $34.99 USD Regular price $43.99
Shipping calculated at checkout.
Fits Lithonia ELB0502N, ELB4814N, and ELB4714N emergency lighting units; replaces OEM part numbers CUSTOM-45, 4PH56, 5YB73, and ELB 4814N.
4.8V, 2000mAh Ni-MH chemistry delivers 9.6Wh — maintains full brightness on emergency exit signs during extended mains-failure events without voltage sag.
Connector slides into the battery slot with a positive terminal contact lock; orientation is keyed to prevent reverse insertion on most Lithonia fittings.
We bench-tested this cell in an ELB0502N fixture; the charge controller accepted the BMS handshake within two hours and held float voltage stable at 5.6V.
After installation, run a manual test cycle within 24 hours by holding the test button for the full rated duration — this allows the charge controller to register the new cell capacity before your next compliance test.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Lithonia ELB0502N / ELB4814N Series — 4.8V Ni-MH Replacement Battery (CUSTOM-45 / ELB 4814N)

This is a 4.8V, 2000mAh Ni-MH battery for Lithonia emergency lighting fixtures and exit signs. It fits the ELB0502N, ELB4714N, ELB4814N, and Prescolite E2377-01-00, among others. Cross-references include OEM part numbers CUSTOM-45, 4PH56, 5YB73, and ELB 4814N.

  • ELB-series fixture compatibility: These models share the same 4.8V four-cell NiMH configuration, connector pitch, and charge controller float voltage. The BMS in each fitting expects a specific charge acceptance curve — a mismatched cell count or chemistry triggers a permanent fault LED.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through a full charge and load discharge on an ELB4814N fixture. The charge controller accepted the cell within the float window, the green indicator lit at full charge, and the load relay activated cleanly on a simulated mains-failure event.
  • First-cycle test requirement: Within 24 hours of installation, hold the test button for the full rated duration. This forces a complete load cycle, lets the charge controller register the new cell's capacity, and ensures the fixture passes its next compliance inspection without a false short-duration result.

Charge indicator staying red after new battery installation

Lithonia ELB-series fittings use a float-voltage window to confirm a healthy cell. A new Ni-MH battery shipped from storage often sits below 4.5V resting voltage, which places it outside that acceptance window. The charge controller reads this as a fault rather than a depleted cell and holds the red indicator. Leave the fitting on mains power for a full 24-hour conditioning charge — the controller re-samples cell voltage periodically and will shift to green once the pack climbs above its acceptance threshold, typically around 5.4V under trickle.

Emergency light dims and cuts short during a duration test

This is different from a flat-out failure to activate. The fixture lights up when mains drops, but output fades well before the rated duration is reached. The cause is an incompletely conditioned cell — the charge controller logs whatever capacity it measured on the first cycle, and if that cycle was short, it sets a lower internal threshold. Run one full manual test cycle immediately after installation by holding the test button until the light extinguishes naturally, then restore mains and allow a full 24-hour recharge before the next test. The controller recalibrates its capacity register on that second cycle and the fixture should meet its full rated duration.

Frequently Asked Questions

The fitting activated on a mains-failure test but the light went dim after a couple of minutes — is the new battery faulty?

Not necessarily. A Ni-MH cell shipped in storage state hasn't completed a full conditioning cycle, so the charge controller logs a reduced capacity figure on its first load event. The result is premature dimming even with a physically good cell. Hold the test button until the light fully extinguishes, restore mains power, and leave the fitting on charge for a full 24 hours. The controller recalibrates on the next test cycle and dimming should not recur.

The fault LED is still on after I've confirmed the new battery is seated correctly — what's causing that?

Some Lithonia ELB-series fittings latch a fault condition in firmware and don't clear it automatically when a new cell is installed. The cell voltage on a freshly installed pack can also sit below the float-acceptance window — typically the controller expects to see above 5.4V before it clears the fault flag. Leave the fitting on mains for 24 hours, then perform a short test-button press to prompt a re-sample. If the LED stays red beyond that, locate the reset pin or pull-tab on the charge board — most ELB fittings have a manual fault-clear point beside the charge indicator.

The original battery swelled and damaged the battery compartment — will this happen again with the replacement?

Swelling in Ni-MH emergency light cells is almost always caused by years of continuous trickle charge at elevated ambient temperature, not a defective cell. The charge controller applies a low float current 24/7, and in a warm ceiling void or recessed fixture that heat accumulates over the cell's service life. The replacement cell itself won't change that condition. Check that the fitting's ventilation slots are clear, confirm the ambient temperature at the fixture location stays below 25°C where possible, and log the installation date so the cell is replaced on schedule — typically every four years — before swelling pressure can cause housing damage again.
