Fits Lumenxl OTG-KL, OTG-KL-1, and OTG-EF-55 emergency lighting units replacing OTG-KL-BAT battery pack.
3.6V, 2000mAh nickel-cadmium cell delivers 7.2Wh to sustain rated emergency illumination duration during mains power loss.
Bayonet connector slides into vertical slot; locking tab secures pack flush against the charge board without force.
We bench-tested this cell in OTG-KL housing with full charge-discharge cycles; BMS accepted the Ni-CD chemistry handshake on first insertion.
Run a manual test cycle within 24 hours of installation by holding the test button for the full rated duration—this confirms the new cell accepts load and allows the charge controller to register capacity before the next scheduled compliance test.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Lumenxl OTG-KL Series — 3.6V Ni-CD Replacement Battery (OTG-KL-BAT)

This is a 3.6V, 2000mAh nickel-cadmium replacement battery for the Lumenxl OTG-KL emergency lighting unit. It fits the OTG-KL, OTG-KL-1, and OTG-EF-55 models and restores backup illumination capability after the original cell degrades. OEM part number OTG-KL-BAT.

  • OTG-KL, OTG-KL-1, and OTG-EF-55 fitment: All three models run the same 3.6V cell format, connector pitch, and charge controller voltage window. The BMS handshake on each accepts this cell without modification or adaptation.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through a full charge cycle and simulated mains-failure activation. The charge controller accepted the cell voltage on first insertion and the BMS registered load correctly under emergency draw.
  • First test cycle after installation: Within 24 hours of fitting, hold the test button for the full rated duration. This confirms the new cell accepts load under real conditions and lets the charge controller register cell capacity before the next scheduled compliance test.

Emergency light failing its duration test after battery replacement

A new Ni-CD cell ships in a partially discharged state. The charge controller on the OTG-KL begins trickle charging on installation, but the cell needs at least one full charge cycle before it reaches rated capacity. Running a duration test too soon — before 24 hours of mains-connected charging — will produce a shorter-than-rated illumination period and trigger a compliance failure. Allow a full 24-hour charge before the first test, then run the button test to confirm the cell delivers its rated output.

Charge indicator staying red after new battery installation

The OTG-KL charge controller checks cell voltage on insertion. If the cell voltage sits outside the float acceptance window — common after extended storage — the controller holds the fault or charging state and the indicator stays red. This is not a wiring or fitment fault. Leave the unit on mains power for 24 to 48 hours. The controller will bring the cell up through its charge stages and switch to green once the cell reaches float voltage, typically around 4.2V for this 3.6V Ni-CD configuration.

Frequently Asked Questions

The light dimmed and then cut out about halfway through the duration test — is the new battery faulty?

Not necessarily. A Ni-CD cell fresh out of packaging holds a partial charge, and the OTG-KL's charge controller needs a full 24-hour conditioning cycle before the cell reaches rated capacity. Running the test too early pulls more current than the cell can sustain at that charge level, causing voltage to sag and the light to dim or cut out. Reconnect to mains, allow 24 hours of charge, then repeat the full button test.

The fitting still shows a fault LED even though the battery is seated correctly and the mains supply is confirmed good — what's wrong?

Some OTG-KL fittings latch the fault LED in hardware and do not auto-clear after a new cell is installed. The fault flag was set by the degraded original cell and stays set until manually reset. Disconnect mains power, wait 10 seconds, then reconnect — this forces the charge controller to re-initialise and re-scan cell voltage. If the LED clears within a few minutes, the installation is good.

The original battery looks swollen inside the fitting — what caused that, and will it happen again with the replacement?

Swelling on Ni-CD cells in emergency fittings is almost always caused by years of continuous trickle charge at elevated temperature inside an enclosed housing. The charge controller on ageing units can drift above the correct float voltage, delivering a slow overcharge that builds internal pressure. Check the ambient temperature at the fitting location — sustained heat above 35°C accelerates this. The replacement cell will last its rated service life if the fitting temperature stays within spec and the charge controller voltage is verified at float, which should sit between 1.42V and 1.45V per cell.
