Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.
Delivery and Shipping
Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

LXE 2280 / 2285 / 2286 Series — 7.2V Ni-MH Replacement Battery (9280160)
This 7.2V, 1200mAh Ni-MH battery replaces the original pack in the LXE 2280, 2285, and 2286 handheld barcode scanners. It matches OEM part numbers 9280160, 155467-00, 152282-000-1, and 152290-0001, among others. Fits units used across retail, warehouse, and logistics pick-and-pack environments.
- 2280 / 2285 / 2286 platform compatibility: These three scanner models share the same battery bay geometry, contact layout, and 7.2V supply rail. The BMS handshake is identical across the series, so one pack serves all three without any adapter or modification.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this pack through full charge and discharge cycles on a 2280 unit. The BMS held cutoff voltage correctly at the low-end threshold and accepted charge termination from the OEM cradle without fault codes.
- First-shift cradle protocol: After installing, seat the scanner in its cradle for a complete charge cycle before the first scan session. The scan trigger draws its highest inrush current when the cell is near minimum — a fully charged cell prevents a false BMS trip during the first burst of the shift.
Cradle showing a charging error on a new pack
LXE cradles read the battery through spring-loaded dock contacts, and a new pack often ships with slight oxidation or residue on the contact pads. High contact resistance causes the dock to report a charge fault before current even flows. Wipe the gold contacts on both the battery and the cradle bay with a dry lint-free cloth, then reseat firmly. If the error clears, the cell was fine — the contact surface was the issue.
Scanner dropping wireless connection during rapid scan bursts
During a fast scan sequence, the laser or imager and the wireless radio draw simultaneously. If the cell voltage sags under that combined load, the radio drops its connection before the scanner shows any low-battery indicator. This is more pronounced on Ni-MH cells that have been partially discharged. Start each shift from a full charge and the voltage headroom keeps both subsystems stable through heavy burst scanning.

Frequently Asked Questions
My LXE 2280 won't read barcodes after I swapped the battery — the trigger clicks but nothing happens
The laser or imager needs a minimum supply voltage to fire reliably, and a freshly installed Ni-MH pack may sit below that threshold if it discharged during storage. Put the scanner in the cradle and charge it fully before attempting any scans. Once the cell reaches full charge, the imager power rail stabilises and scanning resumes normally. If it still fails after a full charge cycle, check that the battery contacts are seating flush in the bay.
The scanner feels noticeably warm after a full shift — is that the battery or the device?
On the 2280, sustained scan-and-transmit cycles generate heat from both the wireless radio and the Ni-MH cell itself, all contained in a compact housing with limited airflow. Ni-MH chemistry runs warmer than lithium under continuous load, so mild warmth after a heavy shift is normal. The pack becomes a concern only if it's too hot to hold — that points to a cell fault or a charge termination failure in the cradle. Check that the cradle contacts are clean and that the charge light shows a proper termination rather than staying on indefinitely.
This battery doesn't last as long as the old one did — the shift used to finish with charge to spare
Ni-MH cells degrade faster under shallow cycling — if the previous pack was routinely topped off rather than run down and fully recharged, that cycle pattern accelerates capacity fade and the replacement looks weaker by comparison. Scan burst frequency and wireless polling rate also both pull from the same cell, so a shift with more RF traffic drains faster than a quiet one. Run a full discharge-to-full-charge cycle on the new pack before judging its endurance. If it still falls noticeably short after two or three proper cycles, verify the cradle is reaching full charge termination at around 8.6–8.7V.
