Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Honeywell 2280 / 2285 / 2286 — 7.2V Ni-MH Replacement Battery (00-864-00)
This is a 7.2V, 1200mAh Ni-MH replacement battery for the Honeywell 2280, 2285, and 2286 handheld barcode scanners. It replaces OEM part numbers 00-864-00, 152282-000-1, 152290-0001, 152290-0001A, 15546700, and 163467-001. Capacity is rated at 8.64Wh and the pack matches the original cell count and connector pinout.
- 2280, 2285, and 2286 compatibility: These three scanner models share the same 7.2V battery bay, dock connector, and BMS handshake protocol. The voltage rail and contact arrangement are identical across the series, so one pack fits all three without adapters or firmware changes.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this pack through the 2280 scanner cradle and monitored the BMS across charge and discharge cycles. The protection circuit handled charge cutoff cleanly at full voltage and did not trip on scan-trigger inrush at low state of charge.
- First-shift prep for pick-and-pack use: After installing the pack, seat the scanner in its cradle and complete one full charge cycle before your first shift. Scan-trigger inrush current peaks when the cell is near minimum, and a fully charged pack prevents false BMS trips during the first high-frequency scanning burst of the day.
Cradle charging error on a new pack
The 2280 charging dock reads the battery through spring-loaded contacts on the base of the pack. Oxidation or debris on those contacts raises resistance enough for the dock to flag a charging fault, even with a new cell installed. This is not a fault in the battery itself — the dock firmware interprets a voltage drop across dirty contacts as an incompatible or failed pack. Wipe the gold contacts on both the battery and the dock with a dry cloth, reseat the pack firmly, and the error clears.
Scanner losing wireless connection during rapid scan bursts
The 2280 draws simultaneously from its radio module and scan trigger during a fast barcode burst. On a degraded or partially charged pack, that combined inrush pulls the cell voltage below the radio's minimum operating threshold, causing the wireless link to drop. The scanner may appear functional — the trigger still fires — but the data never reaches the host. Charge the pack to full before use and confirm resting cell voltage is above 7.0V before the start of a shift.

Frequently Asked Questions
My 2280 scanner stopped reading barcodes right after I put the new battery in — what's wrong?
The laser or imager in the 2280 needs the cell above a minimum voltage to fire at full power. A new Ni-MH pack ships partially discharged, and the scan trigger inrush at low charge can trip the BMS or simply drop voltage below the imager's threshold. Place the scanner in the charging cradle and complete one full charge cycle before triggering. Once fully charged, the imager fires at rated power and reads normally.
The scanner feels warm after a long shift scanning in a warehouse — is that a battery fault?
It is not a fault. The 2280's compact housing traps heat from the radio module, scan trigger, and battery discharge all running together. Ni-MH cells generate more heat than Li-ion during sustained discharge, so extended shifts with high scan frequency and active wireless polling will warm the pack and housing noticeably. If the scanner becomes hot enough to interrupt scanning or trigger a shutdown, check that the cradle contact area is clean — poor contact forces the charger to work harder and adds heat at the dock end of the cycle.
The new battery charged overnight but the shift ended earlier than expected — what cuts endurance short on the 2280?
Scan burst frequency and wireless polling interval are the two biggest draws on the 2280 pack, and both run at the same time during active picking. A high-density scanning environment — frequent back-to-back scans with a live wireless connection — discharges a 1200mAh Ni-MH pack faster than light intermittent use. Also confirm the pack reached a true full charge: a Ni-MH cell that was stored discharged for a long period may need two full charge-discharge cycles before it holds rated capacity. Check resting voltage after a full charge — it should read at or above 7.2V before the shift starts.
