Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Magellan RoadMate 3045 Series — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (BP-LP720/11-A1B)

This is a 3.7V 720mAh Li-ion cell for the Magellan RoadMate 3045, RoadMate 3045-LM, and RoadMate 3045-MU portable GPS navigators. It matches the OEM part number BP-LP720/11-A1B and fits the same connector and housing as the original. Capacity is 720mAh (2.66Wh), identical to factory spec.

  • RoadMate 3045, 3045-LM, and 3045-MU compatibility: All three variants use the same cell format, voltage rail, and connector layout. The 3045-LM and 3045-MU add lifetime maps and traffic respectively, but the battery circuit is unchanged across the series.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through charge and discharge cycles on the RoadMate 3045 platform. The BMS accepted the cell without error, charged cleanly to 4.2V, and the device held the display on through active navigation without voltage sag or unexpected cutoff.
  • First satellite fix after a battery swap: After fitting this cell, power the unit on outdoors and let it run until it acquires a satellite lock. The GPS performs a cold start following any full power interruption — first fix takes 5–10 minutes compared to under a minute on a warm start. Do not test indoors and assume the unit is faulty.

Saved routes and POIs disappearing after battery replacement

The RoadMate 3045 stores some navigation data in battery-backed RAM. When the original cell dies completely or is removed, that volatile memory loses power and clears. Saved home addresses, favourites, and recent destinations may not survive a full power-loss event. Maps stored on internal flash are unaffected — only RAM-resident data is at risk. After fitting this replacement, re-enter any saved locations through the device menu.

RoadMate 3045 shutting off without warning before the battery indicator hits zero

This happens because the on-screen battery gauge is calibrated to the original cell's discharge curve. A new cell — or an aged original — can have a slightly different voltage curve, so the device hits its low-voltage cutoff threshold before the visual indicator catches up. The unit shuts off abruptly rather than showing the empty-battery warning. Run two or three full charge-to-discharge cycles and the gauge will recalibrate. After cycling, the cutoff and the indicator should align at around 3.0V.

Frequently Asked Questions

My RoadMate 3045 took nearly 10 minutes to find satellites after I fitted the new battery — is something wrong with the cell?

Nothing is wrong. Any full power removal forces the GPS receiver into a cold start, where it has to re-download almanac and ephemeris data from satellites from scratch. That process takes 5–10 minutes outdoors with a clear sky view. Subsequent starts will lock in under a minute because the receiver caches that data once acquired. Take the unit outside, leave it stationary, and let it complete the first fix before driving.

My saved home address and favourite POIs are gone after swapping the battery — did the replacement wipe them?

The RoadMate 3045 holds some navigation data in RAM that needs continuous power to retain its contents. When the original cell is fully removed, that RAM loses power and clears regardless of which replacement goes in. Map data on internal flash is unaffected. Re-enter your saved locations through the Settings or My Places menu after the swap.

The battery drains noticeably faster when I'm actively navigating than when the screen is just on at home — is the new cell faulty?

It is not faulty. Active navigation runs the GPS receiver and the display simultaneously, which are the two highest-draw components on the unit. Standby or menu use cuts the receiver's polling rate sharply. Reducing screen brightness to the lowest usable setting is the single most effective way to extend charge on a 720mAh cell during a long drive. The receiver itself draws roughly constant power once locked, so display brightness is the main variable you can control.
