This is an 18V 2000mAh (36Wh) Li-ion battery for the Metabo AG 18 602242850 angle grinder and compatible 18V cordless tools including the AHS 18, ASE 18, and AV 18 606176850. It slots into the same battery rail and communicates with the same BMS handshake as the original Metabo 18V pack. Capacity is 2000mAh — sufficient for cutting and grinding cycles on construction and metalworking sites.

  • AG 18 and AHS 18 series compatibility: These models share Metabo's standard 18V rail geometry and a common BMS communication protocol. The battery connector, latch position, and cell voltage thresholds are consistent across the AG, AHS, ASE, and AV 18 platforms — which is why one pack covers all of them.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this pack through motor-start inrush cycles on an 18V angle grinder load. The BMS held the current spike on trigger pull without tripping, and cell voltage recovered cleanly to resting state between cycles.
  • Break-in load cycling on angle grinders: On first use, run the grinder at light cutting load for two cycles before pushing full-depth cuts. This lets the BMS log the motor's inrush current signature and set overcurrent thresholds accurately — reducing nuisance cutoffs later under heavy load.

BMS cutoff on the AG 18 motor-start inrush surge

The AG 18 angle grinder draws a sharp current spike the moment the trigger is pulled — the motor goes from zero to full speed in under 100 milliseconds. A new or cold pack with a conservative BMS can interpret this spike as a fault and cut output before the disc even reaches speed. The BMS stores the inrush profile after the first few cycles and widens its overcurrent window accordingly. If cutoffs continue after break-in, check the rail contacts for oxidation — high contact resistance amplifies the voltage drop during inrush and can trick the BMS into a false trip.

Charger not recognising the pack after storage

If the Metabo charger shows a blinking red light or no response when a stored pack is inserted, the cells have likely self-discharged below the charger's acceptance threshold — typically around 2.5V per cell. Most Metabo chargers will not begin a charge cycle on a pack sitting below that threshold as a safety measure. Remove the pack, leave it at room temperature for 20 minutes, then reinsert — slight thermal recovery can nudge cell voltage just enough for the charger to accept it. If the charger still rejects the pack, use a compatible recovery charger to bring each cell above 2.8V before switching back to the standard Metabo unit.

The grinder bogs down and loses power mid-cut even though the battery shows charged — what's happening?

This is voltage sag under sustained load, not a capacity issue.
