Fits Metrologic MS5500, MS5500 Optimus S, SP5500, and MK5502 models; replaces OEM part numbers BA-80S700 and 46-00311.
3.7V lithium-ion at 750mAh delivers the pulse current needed for scan trigger and wireless transmission without voltage sag during rapid barcode reads.
Connector slides into the battery slot with a small locking tab on the right side; seat it fully until you hear the catch click.
We ran this cell through scan-heavy cycles on a cradle charger; the BMS accepted full charge without error flags and held voltage under combined laser and radio load.
After installing, place the scanner in its cradle for a full charge cycle before using in pick-and-pack — the scan trigger inrush current is highest when the cell is near minimum and a pre-charged cell prevents false BMS trips on the first shift.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Metrologic MS5500 / MK5502 Series — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (BA-80S700)

This 3.7V, 750mAh lithium-ion cell replaces the original BA-80S700 pack in the Metrologic MS5500, MS5500 Optimus S, SP5500, and MK5502 handheld barcode scanners. These are compact imaging scanners used in retail point-of-sale and warehouse inventory workflows. Capacity is rated at 2.78Wh and matches the original cell format exactly.

  • MS5500 / MK5502 platform fit: All covered models share the same 3.7V power rail, physical form factor, and BMS handshake protocol — the same cell works across the full scanner family without any modification to the device or firmware.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through repeated scan-trigger inrush events on the MS5500 chassis. The BMS held the correct cutoff thresholds at both low-state-of-charge and full-charge conditions with no false trips.
  • First-shift preparation for pick-and-pack use: Place the scanner in its cradle for a full charge cycle before putting it into rotation. Scan trigger inrush current peaks when the cell is near minimum, and starting a shift on a pre-charged pack prevents the BMS from tripping on the first heavy burst.

Cradle showing a charging error on a freshly installed pack

Charging docks on the MS5500 family use contact pins that oxidise quickly in warehouse environments. A new pack with clean contacts dropped into a dirty dock can read as an open circuit, triggering a charge fault on the cradle LED. The dock is not detecting the pack — it is detecting the resistance at the contact point. Wipe the battery contacts and dock pins with a dry cloth, reseat the scanner firmly, and the fault clears at contact resistance below roughly 0.5 ohms.

Scanner dropping wireless connection during rapid scan bursts

The MS5500 draws simultaneously from the wireless radio and the imager during a fast scan sequence. When the cell voltage sags under that combined load, the radio module drops its transmission before the imager shuts down — so the scan light stays on but the data never reaches the host. This is a voltage sag issue, not a radio fault. A fully charged pack holds above 3.5V under load and keeps both subsystems stable through burst scanning.

Frequently Asked Questions

My MS5500 won't read barcodes right after I swapped the battery — imager light comes on but nothing registers

The imager needs a minimum supply voltage to process and transmit a decode. If the replacement pack shipped partially discharged, the cell voltage under scan-trigger load can drop below the threshold the decode engine needs. Put the scanner in the cradle for a full charge cycle first — once the pack is above 3.6V resting voltage, the imager will decode cleanly on the first trigger pull.

The scanner runs noticeably warm after a few hours on shift — is something wrong with the new pack?

Heat build-up in these scanners comes from the combined sustained draw of the wireless radio polling and the imager firing back-to-back in a busy pick-and-pack environment, not from a defective cell. The MS5500 housing is compact with no active cooling, so thermal accumulation is normal under high scan frequency. If the casing feels hot rather than warm, check whether the wireless polling interval is set aggressively short in the scanner config — reducing the poll rate lowers the sustained current draw and keeps temperatures in check.

New battery lasts noticeably less than the old one did when it was new — same usage, shorter endurance

A 750mAh cell at 3.7V gives 2.78Wh of usable energy, but shallow cycling — frequent top-ups before the pack drops to 3.4V — trains the BMS to report a narrower usable window over time. If the previous battery was conditioned correctly and this one was not, endurance will appear shorter even though capacity is identical. Run two or three full discharge-and-charge cycles through the cradle before judging shift endurance — let the pack drop to auto-cutoff, then charge uninterrupted to full before the next shift.
