Fits Metrologic SP5700 Optimus PDA and MK5710 models using OEM part number 46-00518.
3.6V, 2000mAh lithium-ion cell delivers 7.2Wh for full-shift barcode scanning and wireless operations.
Connector mates directly to the scanner battery slot with positive and negative contact alignment verified.
We bench-tested this pack on the SP5700 cradle dock; BMS accepted charge handshake without fault codes.
After installing, place the scanner in its cradle for a full charge cycle before field use — the scan trigger inrush current is highest when the cell is near minimum and a pre-charged cell prevents false BMS trips on the first shift.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Metrologic SP5700 Optimus / MK5710 — 3.6V Li-ion Replacement Battery (46-00518)

This is a 3.6V, 2000mAh Li-ion battery for the Metrologic SP5700 Optimus PDA and MK5710 handheld barcode scanner. It replaces OEM part number 46-00518. Both devices are used in retail and warehouse pick-and-pack operations where scanner uptime directly affects throughput.

  • SP5700 and MK5710 compatibility: Both models share the same 3.6V battery bay, connector pinout, and BMS handshake protocol — one cell fits both without adapter or firmware change.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through charge and discharge cycles on the SP5700. The BMS accepted the pack without error codes, and the scan trigger fired cleanly from a full charge down to the low-voltage cutoff threshold.
  • First-shift prep for cradle users: After installing, seat the scanner in its cradle and run a full charge cycle before the first pick-and-pack shift. Scan trigger inrush current peaks when the cell is near minimum — a pre-charged pack prevents false BMS trips during the first burst of the day.

Cradle showing a charging error on a new pack

Charging docks on the SP5700 series communicate with the battery through spring-loaded contact pins. If those contacts carry oxidation or debris, the dock reads high resistance and flags a fault before any current flows. Wipe the gold contacts on the battery and the dock with a dry cloth, then reseat the pack firmly. If the error clears, the contact surface was the cause — not the cell. A confirmed good connection shows the dock LED shifting from amber fault to solid charge within 10 seconds.

Scanner dropping wireless connection mid-burst scan session

The SP5700 pulls simultaneous current from the radio transmitter and the laser or imager during a rapid scan burst. That combined inrush can push voltage sag past the radio module's minimum supply threshold, causing it to drop off the network briefly. An aged or partially discharged cell has higher internal resistance, so the sag is deeper and more frequent. Start each shift with a fully charged pack and keep the wireless polling interval at the manufacturer default — tightening it increases radio draw and worsens sag. Confirm the cell is reading at or above 3.5V at rest before beginning a high-volume session.

Frequently Asked Questions

My SP5700 won't read barcodes after I swapped the battery — laser comes on but scans fail. What's wrong?

A weak cell can power the laser but not sustain the imager or decoder board at full voltage during a scan trigger pull. Put the scanner in the cradle and charge the new pack fully before use — the scan trigger inrush current is highest from a low state of charge and the decoder can miss reads if supply voltage dips during processing. Once charged, test with a known barcode at close range. If reads are still failing above 3.5V resting voltage, check that the battery contacts are fully seated.

The scanner feels noticeably warm after a full warehouse shift — is that a battery issue?

The SP5700 runs the wireless radio and the scan engine in an enclosed plastic housing with no active cooling. Sustained back-to-back scanning combined with continuous wireless polling generates heat that accumulates over a long shift. A degraded cell with high internal resistance adds to that heat load because it dissipates more energy as warmth during charge and discharge. If warmth is new behaviour with the old battery still installed, the cell has likely degraded and swapping it out resolves the issue. A healthy new pack at 3.6V nominal should run through a standard shift without becoming uncomfortably warm to the touch.

After a long weekend in the charger, the scanner powered on but the shift ended much earlier than expected — why?

Leaving a Li-ion cell on a trickle charge for multiple days in an older cradle can cause the BMS to cycle the pack repeatedly through shallow top-up charges, which accelerates capacity fade over time. This is distinct from a faulty cell — the cell may read full voltage at rest but deliver fewer usable cycles because shallow cycling conditions the cell into a narrower capacity window. Check that your cradle firmware is current, as updated docks on the SP5700 series switch to a maintenance mode rather than continuous trickle after a full charge. Confirm resting voltage is at or above 3.6V before the shift starts.
