Fits Unitech PA960, PA962, PA963, RH767 barcode scanners; replaces OEM part 1400-202017 and 1400-202450G.
7.4V Li-ion at 1850mAh delivers 13.69Wh — sufficient for a full warehouse shift of continuous scanning and wireless data transmission.
Connector slides straight into the scanner battery slot with a positive-to-spring orientation; locking tab clicks down flush against the housing.
We bench-tested the BMS on a PA960 dock charger; voltage ramped clean from 0V to 7.4V with no fault cycles or early cutoff events.
After installing this cell, place the scanner in its cradle for a full charge cycle before field use — rapid scan trigger current peaks highest when the battery sits below 50% capacity and can trip the BMS protection circuit if the cell starts near minimum.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Unitech PA960 Series — 7.4V Li-ion Replacement Battery (1400-202017)

This 7.4V 1850mAh Li-ion battery replaces the original pack in the Unitech PA960, PA962, PA963, and RH767 handheld barcode scanners. It matches the OEM voltage rail and connector, so it drops straight into the battery bay without modification. Capacity is rated at 1850mAh (13.69Wh) — the same as the factory specification.

  • PA960 / PA962 / PA963 / RH767 compatibility: These four models share the same 7.4V battery bay, connector pinout, and BMS handshake protocol — the same cell pack fits all of them without an adapter or firmware change.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through scan-trigger inrush events on the PA960 platform. The BMS held voltage above the low-cell threshold during rapid burst scanning combined with active 802.11 wireless polling — no premature cutoff observed.
  • First-shift preparation: After installing this pack, seat the scanner in its cradle and complete a full charge cycle before running a picking shift. Scan-trigger inrush current peaks when the cell is near minimum, and a fully charged cell prevents a false BMS protection trip during the first hour of use.

Cradle showing a charging error on a brand-new pack

The PA960 charging cradle monitors contact resistance on the battery terminals. If resistance reads high — even briefly — the dock firmware flags a fault and stops the charge cycle. This happens most often with a new pack because the gold-plated contacts on the cell haven't seated fully yet. Wipe the battery contacts with a dry cloth, reseat the pack firmly, and confirm the cradle LED switches from fault amber to charge green within 10 seconds.

Scanner dropping wireless connection during rapid scan bursts

The PA960 draws current simultaneously from the laser or imager, the scan trigger, and the 802.11 radio — all three fire at near the same moment during a rapid burst. On a degraded or low-charge cell, that combined inrush pulls voltage below the radio module's minimum operating threshold, causing the wireless stack to reset. The scan engine stays active but the terminal link drops, so scans queue locally and sync is lost. Charge the battery to at least 7.2V before a high-frequency scanning shift to keep the voltage headroom above both the radio and imager minimums.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why does the PA960 stop reading barcodes immediately after I swap in the new battery?

The imager or laser module needs a minimum voltage to fire at full power — if the new pack shipped partially discharged, that threshold may not be met on the first trigger pull. This is not a fault with the battery or scanner. Place the unit in its charging cradle and complete a full charge cycle before use, then retest. A fully charged pack sits at approximately 8.2V open-circuit, well above the imager's minimum operating voltage.

The scanner runs noticeably warm after a long shift — is that a battery problem?

Sustained heat in the PA960 housing during extended shifts is normal. The combined draw from continuous scan bursts, active 802.11 polling, and the processor running inventory software generates heat inside a sealed rugged enclosure. The battery itself adds a small amount of resistive heat under load, but it is rarely the primary source. If the pack feels hot to the touch when removed — not just warm — check that the battery bay vents are not blocked and that ambient temperature in the warehouse is within the 0–40°C operating range specified for this platform.

After several weeks of use, each shift ends with charge left on the indicator — but the scanner shuts down anyway. What causes that?

The PA960's fuel gauge reads state-of-charge from accumulated voltage and current data. If the battery goes through many shallow discharge cycles — topped up frequently without a full drain — the gauge loses calibration and overstates remaining charge. The BMS still cuts power at the true low-cell voltage, so the shutdown happens earlier than the indicator suggests. Run two full discharge-to-cutoff cycles followed by a complete cradle charge to recalibrate the gauge; the indicator should align with actual remaining capacity after that.
