Fits MetroPCS 4G (MS870) and replaces OEM part numbers BL-53QH and EAC61878605.
This 3.7V, 1800mAh lithium-ion cell restores full charge cycles to the original smartphone capacity.
Connector slots vertically into the battery door contact frame with no locking tab required.
We bench-tested the BMS on a MetroPCS 4G charger; fuel gauge accepted the new cell after one full discharge cycle.
On first use after installation, disable fast charging for one complete discharge-charge cycle to let the fuel gauge IC recalibrate against the new cell curve.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

MetroPCS 4G / MS870 — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (BL-53QH)

This is a 3.7V, 1800mAh Li-ion replacement battery for the MetroPCS 4G smartphone, also sold as the LGMS870. It replaces OEM part BL-53QH and EAC61878605. Swap it in when the original cell no longer holds charge through a normal day of calls, messaging, and app use.

  • MS870 and 4G model compatibility: The MS870 and MetroPCS 4G share the same battery bay dimensions, connector pin-out, and BMS handshake protocol — one cell covers both. The 57.70 x 51.20 x 5.20mm footprint seats flush without modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell on an MS870 unit and monitored BMS cutoff behaviour across charge and discharge cycles. The protection circuit held voltage within expected parameters and tripped correctly at the low-voltage threshold — no false cutoffs under modem load.
  • First-cycle fuel gauge reset: After installation, disable fast charging and run one full discharge-to-charge cycle. The fuel gauge IC on the MS870 calibrates its coulomb counter against the new cell's discharge curve. Skipping this step causes the reported percentage to drift against actual cell state.

Sudden shutdown at 20–30% on the MS870 after a cell swap

The MS870 uses a fuel gauge IC that maps voltage to percentage based on the original cell's discharge curve. A new cell has a slightly different curve, so the IC can misread remaining capacity. Under high load — active LTE, screen at full brightness — the phone pulls peak current and the new cell's voltage drops below the shutdown threshold before the gauge reaches 0%. One full discharge-charge cycle recalibrates the curve and moves the cutoff point back to where it should be.

Phone won't power on after the replacement cell sat in storage

Li-ion cells shipped or stored for extended periods can drop below 2.5V per cell. At that level, the BMS locks out charging as a safety measure and the phone shows nothing when you press power. Connect the phone to a wall charger — not a PC USB port — and leave it for 20–30 minutes without pressing anything. A wall adapter delivers enough current to nudge the BMS out of lockout mode. Once the charging LED activates, the cell is recovering and you can proceed with a normal charge cycle to 3.7V nominal.

Frequently Asked Questions

The MetroPCS 4G battery percentage jumps around erratically after I put in the new cell — is something wrong with it?

Nothing is wrong with the cell. The fuel gauge IC on the MS870 was calibrated to the old battery's discharge curve, and it takes time to map the new cell correctly. Run one complete discharge — use the phone until it shuts off on its own — then charge it fully without interruption. After that single cycle, the coulomb counter resets against the new curve and the percentage readings stabilise.

Fast charging stopped working the first time I plugged in after replacing the battery on my MetroPCS 4G — why?

On the first charge cycle after a cell swap, the BMS on a new battery has not yet negotiated the USB charging profile with the phone's charge IC. The device defaults to standard 5V charging as a safety fallback. Let that first charge complete fully at standard rate without unplugging. On subsequent cycles, the charge IC re-establishes the correct current negotiation and fast charging resumes normally.

My MetroPCS MS870 feels warm near the battery compartment while charging the new cell — is that normal?

A new high-impedance cell generates slightly more heat during the first few charge cycles as the charge IC pushes current into a cell it hasn't characterised yet. Mild warmth — not hot to the touch — is within normal range. If the phone becomes too hot to hold comfortably, remove it from the charger and let it cool to room temperature before resuming. After two or three full cycles, internal resistance drops and the warmth during charging reduces noticeably.
