Fits MetroPCS Legacy and CP3705A models, replacing OEM part CPLD-428.
This 3.85V lithium-polymer cell delivers 3900mAh capacity for full-day smartphone operation.
Connector seats flush into the battery slot with standard orientation, no forced pressure.
On bench test, the BMS initialized properly on first charge with balanced cell curves.
On first use after installation, disable fast charging for one complete discharge-charge cycle — this lets the fuel gauge IC recalibrate against the new cell discharge curve before high-current charging resumes.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

MetroPCS Legacy / CP3705A — 3.85V Li-Polymer Replacement Battery (CPLD-428)

This is a 3.85V, 3900mAh (15.02Wh) Li-Polymer battery built to the CPLD-428 spec. It fits the MetroPCS Legacy and CP3705A smartphones. Install it when the original cell no longer holds charge or causes unexpected shutdowns.

  • Legacy and CP3705A compatibility: Both models share the same 3.85V power rail, connector pinout, and BMS handshake protocol — one cell covers both. Swapping between these variants requires no adapter or modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled the CPLD-428 cell on the Legacy platform and monitored BMS charge acceptance across three full cycles. The protection circuit held cutoff at the correct thresholds and accepted charge from both standard and fast-charge sources by the second cycle.
  • Fuel gauge recalibration on first use: On the first cycle after installation, disable fast charging and run the phone down to automatic shutdown before charging fully to 100%. This gives the fuel gauge IC one clean reference cycle against the new cell's actual discharge curve before high-current charging begins.

Sudden shutdown at 20–30% on the CPLD-428 replacement cell

This happens because the fuel gauge IC in the Legacy is still reading the discharge curve of the old, degraded cell. The new cell hits a steeper voltage drop under modem or display load than the IC expects, so the phone cuts power before the gauge reaches zero. It is not a defect in the replacement battery. Run one full discharge-to-shutdown and uninterrupted charge-to-100% cycle, and the coulomb counter will re-anchor to the new cell's actual curve — shutdowns at partial charge typically stop after that cycle.

USB fast charge not accepted on the first cycle after installation

On the first charge with a new cell, the BMS starts in a conservative state and may refuse the fast-charge handshake from USB-PD or proprietary protocols. The phone will charge at standard 5V/1A even when a fast charger is connected. This is normal BMS behaviour on a fresh cell — it is not a charger fault. Complete one full standard-rate charge cycle first, and fast charging typically re-enables on the next plug-in once the BMS has accepted a baseline charge profile.

Frequently Asked Questions

My MetroPCS Legacy won't turn on at all after the new CPLD-428 battery sat in a drawer for a few weeks — is the cell dead?

It is likely in BMS lockout, not dead. Li-Polymer cells that drop below roughly 2.5V trigger a protection cutoff that blocks normal charging. Connect the phone to a wall charger — not a PC port — and leave it for 30–45 minutes without pressing the power button. The charge IC will trickle current into the cell until voltage clears the lockout threshold, after which the phone should boot normally.

The battery percentage on my Legacy jumps around — it reads 60%, then skips to 40% a few minutes later with no heavy use.

Erratic percentage readings happen when the fuel gauge IC's stored discharge curve no longer matches the cell it is measuring — common after a battery swap. The coulomb counter is interpolating against old data. Run the phone from 100% down to automatic shutdown without charging in between, then charge uninterrupted to 100%. That single complete cycle gives the IC a fresh reference map and the jumping typically stops.

The Legacy feels noticeably warm near the battery area while charging the new CPLD-428 — should I be concerned?

Mild warmth on the first few charges is normal. A new high-impedance cell causes the charge IC to work slightly harder until internal resistance settles after a few cycles. If the phone becomes hot to the touch or shows a charging error, remove it from the charger and let it cool to room temperature before retrying. Warmth that persists beyond the third charge cycle at 5V/1A is worth investigating — check that the charging port is clean and the cable delivers a stable 5V.
