Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.
Delivery and Shipping
Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Microsoft Surface Book 1938 — 7.6V Li-Polymer Replacement Battery (M1097873-001 / MQ08)
This is a 7.6V, 2200mAh Li-Polymer battery for the tablet component of the Microsoft Surface Book 1938. It replaces OEM part numbers M1097873-001 and MQ08. When the original cell degrades, the tablet loses usable charge quickly — this battery restores the capacity the tablet portion needs to function independently from the keyboard base.
- Surface Book 1938 tablet unit fit: The 1938 tablet runs a dedicated cell separate from the keyboard base battery. This replacement matches the 7.6V nominal voltage rail and the thin 2.20mm profile required to seat correctly inside the tablet housing without clearance issues.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through charge and discharge on the Surface Book 1938 tablet. The BMS accepted the charge handshake without fault flags, and voltage held stable under display-on plus Wi-Fi load.
- Fuel gauge recalibration after swap: After installation, run the tablet down to automatic shutoff, then charge uninterrupted to 100% without removing it from the charger. This single full cycle resets the fuel gauge IC calibration against the new cell and clears the inaccurate percentage readings that appear immediately after a battery swap.
Surface Book 1938 tablet shutting down at 15–25% remaining
This happens because the fuel gauge IC was calibrated to the old, degraded cell. The new cell has a steeper voltage curve in the lower charge range than the gauge expects. When display brightness is high and Wi-Fi is active simultaneously, the combined load pulls voltage down faster than the gauge tracks, triggering a low-voltage shutoff before the percentage reaches zero. Run one complete discharge-to-shutoff cycle followed by an uninterrupted charge to 100% — after that cycle, the gauge maps correctly to the new cell's actual voltage curve.
Surface Book 1938 not showing fast charge after battery replacement
Fast charging on the Surface Book relies on the charge IC completing a successful negotiation cycle with a known-good cell. On a freshly installed battery, the controller has not yet logged an accepted charge handshake. Complete one full charge from low to 100% using the original Microsoft power supply — third-party chargers can interrupt the negotiation. After that first successful cycle, the charge IC unlocks higher current delivery for subsequent sessions.

Frequently Asked Questions
My Surface Book 1938 tablet is showing 80% battery but shuts down without warning — is the new battery faulty?
The battery is not faulty. The fuel gauge IC inside the Surface Book is still calibrated to the old cell's voltage curve, so it reads percentage inaccurately against the new cell. Drain the tablet completely to automatic shutoff, then charge it uninterrupted to 100% using the Microsoft power supply. After that one full cycle, the gauge recalibrates and shutdowns at false-high percentages stop.
The Surface Book tablet feels warm near the battery area while charging after the swap — should I be concerned?
Mild warmth during the first few charge cycles is normal. A new Li-Polymer cell has slightly higher internal resistance until it conditions, and the charge IC draws slightly more current during the initial calibration cycle. If the tablet stays consistently hot to the touch or the surface temperature feels uneven, stop charging and check that the battery connector is fully seated — a partial connection increases resistance and heat at the contact point. Normal operating temperature during charge should be warm but not uncomfortable to hold.
Fast charging stopped working on the Surface Book 1938 tablet after I replaced the battery — the charger is the same one I always used.
The Surface Book charge controller requires a completed handshake cycle before it enables higher-current delivery to an unrecognised cell. On the first charge after a swap, it defaults to standard current until it logs a full accepted cycle. Plug in the original Microsoft Surface power supply and charge from below 20% to 100% without interrupting the session. Once that first full cycle completes, fast charging resumes on subsequent sessions.
