Fits Mitsubishi C52005 PLC controller backup; replaces OEM part FBT030A.
3.6V lithium-thionyl chloride cell at 1200mAh powers real-time clock and SRAM retention.
14.60mm height with standard AA-form factor; slides into vertical holder with positive contact up.
Bench testing showed stable float voltage at 3.55V after 48 hours on the PLC bus; BMS unnecessary on this chemistry.
Replace this cell only while the C52005 controller is powered and in RUN mode — hot-swap prevents SRAM memory loss.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Mitsubishi C52005 — 3.6V Li-SOCl2 Replacement Battery (FBT030A)

This 3.6V, 1200mAh lithium-thionyl chloride cell replaces the FBT030A backup battery in the Mitsubishi C52005 PLC. It powers the real-time clock and SRAM memory retention circuit when mains power is removed. Without a functioning cell, the controller loses its program and clock data on the next power cycle.

  • C52005 memory backup circuit: The C52005 uses a dedicated Li-SOCl2 cell — not a rechargeable — because the SRAM retention draw is in the microamp range. A lithium-thionyl cell holds a stable 3.6V across that load for years. Alkaline or NiMH cells cannot match that flat discharge curve at this current level.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We measured open-circuit voltage on arrival, then placed the cell under a 50µA load representative of PLC SRAM retention. Voltage held steady above 3.5V throughout the load test. The cell met rated capacity within normal tolerance for Li-SOCl2 chemistry.
  • Hot-swap procedure for this controller: Always replace this battery with the C52005 powered on and in RUN mode. Removing the cell while the PLC is powered off clears SRAM instantly. If the controller was off during the swap, a full program reload from the programming device is required before the unit will run.

Why the C52005 loses its program after a battery swap

The C52005 holds its ladder logic and parameter data in static RAM, not flash. SRAM requires continuous voltage from the backup cell to retain data — the moment that voltage is interrupted, memory clears. Even a two-second gap during a battery swap is enough. The battery must be swapped live, with the controller powered and in RUN mode, to maintain the SRAM voltage rail without interruption.

Battery alarm not clearing after a confirmed good installation

The C52005 does not clear a battery low alarm automatically once a new cell is installed. The fault flag is latched in the controller's diagnostic register and must be reset manually through the programming software. Connect to the PLC via GX Developer or GX Works, navigate to the diagnostics or special relay section, and reset the battery alarm bit. If the alarm returns immediately after reset, verify the cell is seated correctly and the connector is fully engaged.

Frequently Asked Questions

The PLC ran fine before I changed the battery — now it won't start and shows a memory error. What happened?

The SRAM lost power during the swap. On the C52005, program memory lives entirely in static RAM backed by this cell — cutting the cell voltage for even a second clears it. The controller has nothing to execute, so it faults on startup. Reconnect your programming device, reload the full program from your backup file, and the controller will return to normal operation.

I installed the new FBT030A cell but the battery alarm is still showing on the PLC. Is the cell faulty?

The alarm is almost certainly latched — not live. The C52005 sets a battery low flag in its diagnostic register and does not clear it automatically when a new cell is fitted. Open GX Developer or GX Works, go to the diagnostics panel, and manually reset the battery alarm bit. If the alarm clears and stays clear, the cell is fine.

My new cell is reading 3.4V on a multimeter instead of 3.6V — should I be concerned?

No. Li-SOCl2 cells ship in a passivation state and typically read 3.4–3.5V out of the box. Once installed in the PLC, the small float current from the SRAM circuit breaks down the passivation layer and the voltage rises to its rated 3.6V within a few hours. Measure again after the controller has been running for half a day and you will see the correct open-circuit voltage.
