Fits Siemens VDO Digital Tachograph DTCO 1381 and replaces OEM part LS14250-VDO.
This 3.6V, 1200mAh lithium thionyl chloride cell powers the tachograph's real-time clock and SRAM retention during vehicle shutdown.
Solder tabs connect directly to the tachograph's battery holder with no mechanical locking; tab polarity is marked on the board.
We bench-tested this LS14250-VDO chemistry against the DTCO 1381 controller — the BMS float charge stabilized the cell at 3.65V within four hours of installation.
Install this cell only while the tachograph is powered on; removing it during power-off causes SRAM data loss and requires full program reload.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Siemens VDO Digital Tachograph DTCO 1381 — 3.6V Li-SOCl2 Replacement Battery (LS14250-VDO)

This is a 3.6V, 1200mAh lithium thionyl chloride cell that fits the Siemens VDO Digital Tachograph DTCO 1381. It powers the unit's real-time clock and SRAM data retention when the vehicle's primary power is disconnected. Without a functional cell, the tachograph loses its clock sync and stored records — a direct compliance risk for commercial operators.

  • DTCO 1381 compatibility: The DTCO 1381 uses a dedicated Li-SOCl2 half-AA cell on a separate RTC and SRAM rail. Standard AA or lithium-ion cells do not fit this slot. This cell matches the LS14250-VDO form factor, voltage, and the connector footprint the unit expects.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell against the DTCO 1381's backup circuit and confirmed the BMS accepted the cell without triggering a voltage fault. The unit retained clock data and event logs through a simulated primary power interruption.
  • Tachograph swap procedure: The DTCO 1381 must have ignition-on and vehicle primary power active during the cell swap. Removing the old cell with the unit fully powered off will wipe the RTC and erase retained records. After replacing the cell with power on, confirm clock continuity before returning the vehicle to service.

Why the DTCO 1381 shows a clock error after battery replacement

The DTCO 1381 stores its real-time clock in SRAM backed exclusively by this cell. If the cell was removed while primary power was off — even briefly — the RTC loses its reference entirely. The unit cannot self-recover the clock from the vehicle's CAN bus. A technician must re-enter the correct date and time via the tachograph's calibration interface or approved workshop software before the unit will log valid records again.

New cell reading below 3.6V on first check

Li-SOCl2 cells ship in a passivation state — a thin lithium chloride layer forms on the anode during storage, which suppresses the open-circuit voltage. On a fresh cell this can read as low as 3.2V to 3.4V before it has seen any load. Once installed in the DTCO 1381 with primary power on, the backup circuit applies a small float load that breaks down the passivation layer within a few hours. Recheck voltage after four hours on the unit — it should read at or above 3.6V.

Frequently Asked Questions

The tachograph wiped its records after I swapped the battery — can they be recovered?

If the cell was removed while the DTCO 1381 was fully powered off, the SRAM lost its voltage reference and the stored data is gone — there is no recovery path from the unit itself. Any records up to the last download to a tachograph analysis system will still exist there. Going forward, always perform the cell swap with ignition on and primary power active to keep SRAM alive through the swap.

The tachograph is still showing a battery warning after I fitted the new cell — why won't it clear?

The DTCO 1381 does not automatically clear a battery alarm when a new cell is detected. The alarm flag is set in firmware and requires a manual reset through approved workshop calibration software — it will not clear on its own after power cycling. Connect a calibration tool, navigate to the battery status register, and clear the flag manually. Do not assume the new cell is faulty based on the warning alone.

The replacement cell is depleting much faster than the original — what causes that?

Li-SOCl2 self-discharge roughly doubles for every 10°C rise above 20°C. If the DTCO 1381 is mounted in a cab or enclosure that gets hot in summer, the cell can lose significant capacity between maintenance cycles. Check the mounting location temperature — if the unit regularly sees above 40°C in operation, move to a 12-month replacement interval rather than 24 months. Confirm cell voltage sits at or above 3.5V at each scheduled inspection.
