This is a 11.4V, 4500mAh (51.3Wh) Li-Polymer replacement battery for the MSI Bravo 15 B5DD series gaming laptop. It fits the Bravo 15 B5DD-007XES, B5DD-012XES, B5DD-030TW, B5DD-085, and over 188 additional B5DD variants. The BTY-M492 part number is the OEM reference MSI uses across this entire lineup.
- Bravo 15 B5DD series compatibility: Every model in this lineup shares the same 11.4V three-cell architecture, BTY-M492 connector pinout, and BMS handshake protocol — which is why one SKU covers the full range. Voltage rail and communication lines are identical across all B5DD variants.

The Bravo 15 EC reads health data from the battery's EEPROM on every boot. When a new cell arrives, its EEPROM holds factory-default figures that don't match the EC's stored learn-cycle history from the old battery. The mismatch triggers a "Battery Health Poor" or "Replace Battery" flag even though the cell is brand new. One complete discharge-to-hibernate followed by a full uninterrupted charge gives the EC enough cycle data to overwrite the stale comparison. After that single calibration pass, the health status clears.
Laptop shuts down at 20–30% shown on a freshly installed cell
This happens when the fuel gauge IC hasn't yet mapped the new cell's actual voltage curve. The IC predicts shutdown based on the old cell's discharge profile, so it calls 0% too early — the displayed percentage and true state of charge are out of sync. Under full CPU plus discrete GPU load, the voltage cliff arrives faster than the uncalibrated gauge expects, and the laptop cuts power to protect itself. Run two full discharge-and-charge cycles without interruption; by the third cycle the fuel gauge IC recalibrates its end-point voltage to 11.4V nominal and the premature shutdowns stop.

It isn't faulty. The Bravo 15 EC compares incoming EEPROM data from the new cell against the learn-cycle history it built with the old battery — a mismatch always triggers that warning on first boot. Run one full discharge down to hibernate cutoff, then charge uninterrupted to 100%. That single calibration pass gives the EC enough data to rewrite its health baseline and the warning clears.
My Bravo 15 cuts out at around 25% charge shown after fitting the new cell — it never did this before.
The fuel gauge IC still has the old cell's voltage discharge curve loaded. It predicts the end point too early, so "25%" on screen is actually close to true depletion under combined CPU and GPU load on the Bravo 15. Complete two full uninterrupted discharge-and-charge cycles. After the second cycle the IC remaps its voltage endpoints against the new BTY-M492 chemistry and the premature shutdowns stop.
Windows and the MSI Dragon Center are showing the wrong Wh rating — 45Wh or similar — but the spec says 51.3Wh. Is this a different battery?
This is an EEPROM reporting difference, not a capacity difference. The rated Wh value stored in the cell's EEPROM at the factory can differ slightly from the actual chemistry capacity, and both Windows and Dragon Center pull that stored figure rather than measuring the cell directly. The physical capacity of this BTY-M492 is 51.3Wh. After one full calibration cycle the OS fuel gauge recalculates from measured charge data and the displayed Wh figure corrects itself.
