3.7V 380mAh Li-Polymer cell supplies backup power during outages, maintaining programmed settings and schedules.
Connector is a two-pin JST interface with keyed polarity; slides into the vertical slot beneath the battery door.
We bench-tested the BMS on a 2nd Gen unit; the cell charged to full capacity without early cutoff or fault codes.
After installation, wait 60 seconds before checking the app — the thermostat performs a network re-join sequence after power interruption.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Nest Learning Thermostat 2nd & 3rd Generation — 3.7V Li-Polymer Replacement Battery (TL284443)

This 3.7V 380mAh Li-Polymer cell replaces the internal backup battery in the Nest Learning Thermostat 2nd Generation and 3rd Generation, including models T3007ES and T3008US. It maintains settings, schedule data, and basic operation during brief power interruptions from the HVAC system. When the original cell degrades, the thermostat loses its ability to bridge those gaps and may reset or go offline unexpectedly.

  • 2nd and 3rd Generation compatibility: Both generations share the same internal cell footprint, connector pinout, and BMS communication protocol — the 48.60 x 44.10 x 2.90mm form factor fits both without modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through the thermostat's charge management circuit and confirmed the BMS accepted the cell, balanced charge current correctly, and logged no fault codes during the process.
  • Post-install reconnection window: After seating this cell and reassembling the thermostat, allow at least 60 seconds before expecting Wi-Fi reconnection — the device runs a full network re-join sequence after any internal power interruption.

Why the Nest thermostat loses settings after an HVAC power cut

The Nest Learning Thermostat draws primary power from the HVAC common wire (C-wire) or harvests it from the heating and cooling control wires. The internal Li-Polymer cell acts as a bridge when that supply drops — during a tripped breaker, a furnace lockout, or a system switchover. A degraded cell can no longer hold enough charge to cover even a short gap, so the thermostat reboots and loses its clock, Wi-Fi credentials, and schedule. Replacing the cell restores that buffer capacity and stops the reset loop.

Low battery alert showing immediately after installing a new cell

If the Nest app throws a low battery warning within minutes of a new cell install, the replacement cell likely discharged below the thermostat's alert threshold during storage. The thermostat expects the backup cell to sit above approximately 3.6V before it clears the warning. Place the thermostat back on its base and leave the HVAC system energised for 30–60 minutes — the charge circuit will top up the cell from the C-wire supply. Check the Nest app once the cell reads above 3.7V and the alert should clear automatically.

Frequently Asked Questions

My Nest thermostat went offline right after I replaced the battery — did I break something?

No — this is the network re-join sequence running after an internal power interruption, not a fault. When the backup cell is disconnected and reconnected, the thermostat treats it as a cold start and drops off Wi-Fi while it re-initialises. Leave it on the base with the HVAC system powered for 60 seconds before touching anything. If it hasn't reconnected after 90 seconds, press the thermostat ring once to wake the display and it will force a Wi-Fi handshake.

The new battery seems to drain much faster than the original did — what's causing that?

A high Wi-Fi polling rate or a busy mesh network can increase how often the thermostat's radio wakes, drawing more from the backup cell than normal. This is more common when the thermostat is set to a short schedule-check interval or sits at the edge of Wi-Fi range and retries connections frequently. Check the Nest app's network signal reading — if it shows one bar, move your router closer or add a Wi-Fi extender. Reducing unnecessary automations that trigger thermostat polls will also reduce background drain on the cell.

The Nest app says the thermostat is still offline even after waiting — how do I get it back on the network?

This is a lost pairing state, not a battery issue — the hub (your router or the Nest app) dropped the device from its known network list during the power interruption. Go into the Nest app, select the thermostat, and choose Settings > Reset > Network. The thermostat will broadcast its own setup network for about two minutes. Reconnect through the app using your home Wi-Fi credentials, and the thermostat will re-pair and pull its schedule back from the cloud.
