Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Nightstick 9700 Series — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (9700-BATT)

This is a 3.7V, 7800mAh Li-ion replacement battery for the Nightstick 9700, 9744, and 9746 flashlights. It slots directly into the original battery compartment and uses the same OEM part number 9700-BATT. Capacity matches the factory spec at 28.86Wh.

  • 9700, 9744, and 9746 compatibility: These three models share the same cylindrical battery form factor, voltage rail, and driver circuit. The same 3.7V cell powers all three without any modification to the driver or housing.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this battery through charge and discharge cycles on the 9700 platform. The BMS responded correctly to both high-output and low-output driver modes, with cutoff triggering at expected low-voltage thresholds rather than dropping output abruptly.
  • Turbo mode draw management: The 9700's turbo mode pulls significantly more current than standard or low modes. Running the light exclusively in turbo accelerates cell depletion and generates more heat at the cell. Rotate between output levels during extended use to keep the cell temperature in check.

Why the 9700 steps down brightness before the indicator shows low

The 9700's driver circuit monitors cell voltage continuously. When voltage sags under load — typically below 3.2V — the driver reduces output to protect the cell, even if the indicator hasn't triggered yet. This is brownout protection, not a fault. The light dims because the driver is capping current draw before the BMS hard cutoff kicks in. If this happens early in a session, the cell is likely capacity-faded and needs replacing.

Battery reads fully charged but flashlight output is noticeably weaker

A Li-ion cell that has undergone significant cycle degradation can hold a full nominal voltage at rest while delivering far less usable energy under load. The charger reads the open-circuit voltage and calls it full, but the internal resistance has climbed. Under the 9700's high-current draw, that resistance causes voltage to sag immediately, and the driver pulls back output. Check resting voltage with a multimeter — a healthy cell sits above 4.1V after a full charge. If it reads full but drops below 3.5V within the first few minutes of turbo use, replace the cell.

Frequently Asked Questions

My Nightstick 9700 is cycling through brightness modes on its own near the end of a charge — is the battery failing?

This is driver brownout cycling, not a fault in the switch or driver circuit. When cell voltage drops under sustained load, the driver briefly loses enough voltage to maintain the current output level, steps down, recovers slightly, and tries to step back up — creating the cycling behaviour you're seeing. Switch to a lower output mode immediately; the light will stabilise because the driver's current demand drops within what the depleted cell can supply. If this happens early in a charge cycle rather than near the end, the cell has lost capacity and needs replacing.

The 9700 runs noticeably shorter in turbo mode compared to standard — is something wrong with the replacement battery?

Nothing is wrong. Turbo mode draws roughly five to ten times more current than standard mode, so the cell depletes much faster under that load. The 7800mAh capacity figure reflects total stored energy — how quickly the driver pulls that energy out depends entirely on output level. This is expected behaviour with any cell in this flashlight. If turbo runtime is significantly shorter than it was with a new battery, measure resting voltage after a full charge; it should read above 4.1V.

The new 9700-BATT charged fully but the flashlight won't turn on at all — what's happening?

A Li-ion cell that has been deeply discharged can trigger the BMS into a locked protection state, where it refuses to supply current even after the charger completes. Place the battery on the charger for a full uninterrupted charge cycle of at least four hours without interruption — some BMS circuits require a slow trickle phase to re-initialise from deep discharge. After that cycle, check resting voltage with a multimeter; it should read 4.1V or above before reinstalling. If voltage is below 3.0V after a full charge attempt, the cell has not recovered and should be replaced.
