Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Nightstick NSR-2168 — 7.4V Li-ion Replacement Battery (2168-BATT)

This is a 7.4V, 3350mAh Li-ion replacement battery for the Nightstick NSR-2168 rechargeable tactical flashlight. It replaces OEM part number 2168-BATT and fits the NSR-2168 directly. Voltage and cell count match the original so the flashlight driver runs at the correct operating range from the first charge.

  • NSR-2168 compatibility: The NSR-2168 uses a two-cell Li-ion pack wired to a specific connector and BMS configuration. This replacement matches that cell layout, voltage rail, and connector pinout so the driver board receives the correct input without triggering a fault state.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this pack through charge, discharge, and turbo-mode draw cycles on the NSR-2168. The BMS held cutoff at the correct low-voltage threshold and did not trigger premature shutdown under high-current draw in turbo mode.
  • Multi-cell replacement tip: The NSR-2168 pack uses two cells in series. If one cell in the original pack has degraded while the other is still healthy, do not attempt to replace a single cell — swap the full pack. Mismatched cell capacities cause one cell to hit the low-voltage cutoff before the other, which stresses the weaker cell on every discharge cycle.

Turbo mode output dropping faster than standard mode

Turbo mode on the NSR-2168 draws significantly more current than standard or low modes — often five to ten times higher. At that draw rate, the pack voltage drops faster, and the driver steps output down sooner to protect the cells. This is normal driver behaviour, not a fault with the battery. If turbo runtime feels short, run a full charge cycle to 8.4V before the next use and switch to high mode for extended output.

Flashlight brightness stepping down before the low-battery indicator triggers

The NSR-2168 driver uses brownout protection — it steps output down when pack voltage drops to a threshold slightly above the BMS hard cutoff. This means brightness visibly reduces before the indicator activates, which is intentional. The driver is protecting the cells from being pulled below the safe discharge floor. If this happens earlier than expected on a new pack, check that the battery was fully charged to 8.4V before first use. A partial first charge leaves less usable capacity in the cycle.

Frequently Asked Questions

My NSR-2168 drops to a lower output mode partway through use but the battery indicator still shows charge — is the battery faulty?

It is not faulty. The NSR-2168 driver steps brightness down before the battery indicator triggers because the driver's brownout protection threshold sits above the BMS hard cutoff voltage. The light dims first to protect the cells from dropping below the safe discharge floor. If this is happening earlier than it used to, charge the pack fully to 8.4V and run a complete discharge cycle — a partial charge pattern over several cycles reduces usable capacity.

The NSR-2168 turbo mode seems to drain the battery far faster than standard mode — is something wrong?

Nothing is wrong. Turbo mode pulls five to ten times more current than standard mode, so pack voltage drops much faster under that load. The driver responds by stepping output down sooner than it would in standard mode. This is normal high-current behaviour for a two-cell Li-ion pack. Use high mode instead of turbo for sustained output, and reserve turbo for short bursts where the full draw is actually needed.

I replaced the NSR-2168 battery but now one end of the light runs warmer than expected and runtime is shorter — what is causing this?

This usually points to a cell mismatch inside the pack. If the original pack had one degraded cell and one healthy cell, and only one cell was swapped, the two cells now have different capacities. The weaker cell hits its low-voltage cutoff first on every discharge, forcing the stronger cell to carry more of the load and generating uneven heat. Replace the full pack — never mix cells from different batches or charge states — and verify the replacement pack reaches 8.4V on a full charge before the first use.
