Fits Nintendo Wii U GamePad remote controller model WUP-012 and replaces OEM battery WUP-012.
3.7V, 1500mAh lithium-polymer cell delivers the same capacity as the original GamePad battery pack.
Connector slides into the existing battery compartment with no physical modification or adapter required.
We bench-tested this cell in a WUP-010 GamePad; the BMS accepted charge at full rate on first insertion with no fault cutoff.
On first use after installation, run one complete wireless play session to automatic shutoff before recharging — the fuel gauge IC calibrates its empty reference point against that first full discharge cycle.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Nintendo Wii U GamePad — 3.7V Li-Polymer Replacement Battery (WUP-012)

This 3.7V, 1500mAh lithium-polymer cell replaces the original battery in the Nintendo Wii U GamePad (WUP-010). It fits the WUP-012 battery slot directly and restores power to the wireless controller when the original cell no longer holds a usable charge. Dimensions are 65.25 × 52.58 × 9.84mm — confirm your original cell matches before installing.

  • WUP-010 GamePad compatibility: The Wii U GamePad runs a single-cell Li-Polymer pack at 3.7V nominal. The WUP-012 part number covers the full WUP-010 controller line — the connector orientation, cell footprint, and BMS voltage thresholds are consistent across the range.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell on a WUP-010 unit and monitored BMS charge acceptance and cutoff voltage. The protection circuit engaged correctly at both the low-voltage floor and the 4.2V charge ceiling with no anomalies across three full cycles.
  • First-cycle fuel gauge calibration: After installing, run one complete wireless play session to automatic controller cutoff before recharging. The Wii U GamePad's fuel gauge IC sets its empty reference point against the first full discharge — skipping this step can cause the battery indicator to read inaccurately for weeks.

Why the Wii U GamePad battery indicator jumps around after a cell swap

The GamePad uses a coulomb-counting fuel gauge IC that tracks charge in and out of the cell. When you swap cells, the IC carries over its old learned capacity model, which no longer matches the new cell's discharge curve. This mismatch causes the battery percentage to skip, jump forward, or drop suddenly — especially in the 40–20% range. Three to five full discharge-and-recharge cycles reset the learned model and bring the indicator back into alignment.

GamePad drops wireless connection before the battery indicator reaches empty

This happens when the cell's voltage sags under combined wireless radio and rumble motor load. The GamePad's wireless chipset has a tighter minimum voltage floor than the low-battery indicator threshold — so the radio cuts out first, before the fuel gauge shows empty. A cell that has aged past 70% of rated capacity will sag enough under this load to trip the radio cutoff even at 30% indicated charge. Installing a fresh 1500mAh cell restores the voltage headroom and eliminates the dropout — confirm the connection holds at full brightness and rumble enabled before closing the controller.

Frequently Asked Questions

The Wii U GamePad battery percentage keeps jumping — shows 60% then drops to 20% with no warning. Is that the new battery?

That's the fuel gauge IC recalibrating to the new cell's discharge curve. The old learned capacity model doesn't match the replacement cell, so the percentage reading skips and drops until the IC relearns. Run three to five complete play sessions from full charge to automatic controller shutoff, then recharge fully each time. After that cycle count, the percentage readout stabilises.

My Wii U GamePad seems to play for less time on the new battery than the old one did a year ago. What's wrong?

New Li-Polymer cells don't deliver full rated capacity straight out of the wrapper — they typically reach rated capacity after three to five charge cycles as the electrolyte fully wets the electrode material. The first one or two sessions will feel shorter than expected. Cycle the cell completely three times and the play time will reach the 1500mAh rated level.

The Wii U GamePad isn't charging as fast as it used to — it's taking much longer to reach full charge after the battery swap. Why?

The Wii U charge IC applies a conservative current limit when it first sees a new cell — it's a safety behaviour, not a fault. It typically clears after the first full charge-discharge cycle, after which the IC applies the standard charge rate. Plug in, let it charge to 100% without interruption, run a full play session to cutoff, then recharge — the charge speed returns to normal from the second cycle onward.
