Fits Nintendo 3DS, CTR-001, and MIN-CTR-001 consoles, replacing OEM part CTR-003 and C/CTR-A-AB.
3.7V Li-ion cell at 5000mAh capacity restores full playtime to aged systems losing charge retention.
Slides into the battery slot with standard connector orientation and positive terminal seated flush against contact springs.
We bench-cycled this pack on a 3DS test unit; the fuel gauge tracked accurately through discharge with no early cutoff.
After installation, run one complete wireless play session to automatic shutdown before recharging—the fuel gauge recalibrates against this first full discharge cycle.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Nintendo 3DS — 3.7V Li-ion 5000mAh Replacement Battery (CTR-003)

This is a 3.7V Li-ion replacement battery rated at 5000mAh (18.5Wh) for the Nintendo 3DS handheld console (CTR-001, MIN-CTR-001). It fits the standard battery bay and uses the same connector and contact layout as the original CTR-003. Replace when the original cell no longer holds a charge or cuts out unexpectedly during play.

  • 3DS platform fit: The CTR-001 and MIN-CTR-001 share the same battery bay geometry, connector pinout, and BMS handshake protocol — one cell covers both. The protection circuit communicates charge state directly to the 3DS fuel gauge IC over the same signal path as the factory unit.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell on a CTR-001 unit and confirmed the BMS accepted the charge handshake on first connection. Charge current ramped to full rate, and the protection circuit engaged correctly at the low-voltage cutoff threshold without triggering a false shutdown.
  • First-cycle calibration on the 3DS: After installing, run one complete play session to full automatic shutdown before recharging. The 3DS fuel gauge IC sets its empty reference point against the first full discharge — skipping this step causes the battery indicator to read inaccurately from the start.

3DS fuel gauge jumping or misreading after a cell swap

The 3DS uses a coulomb-counting fuel gauge IC that builds its capacity model from discharge history. When a new cell goes in, the IC still holds the old cell's discharge curve. This mismatch causes the battery indicator to skip bars, jump backwards, or show full charge when the cell is partially depleted. One full discharge-to-cutoff cycle forces the IC to recalculate against the new cell's actual curve and corrects the display.

3DS not charging the replacement cell at full rate on first plug-in

The 3DS charge IC applies a conservative current limit when it first encounters a cell with no charge history logged — this is a built-in protection response, not a fault. The console charges the new cell slowly on the first cycle to verify the protection circuit responds correctly before committing full current. After one complete charge cycle, the IC lifts the restriction and charges at the normal rate. No action needed beyond completing that first full charge to 4.2V.

Frequently Asked Questions

My 3DS shows a full battery bar right after swapping the cell, then drops to one bar after a few minutes — is the new battery faulty?

The cell is fine. The 3DS fuel gauge IC retained the old cell's discharge curve, so its capacity estimate is wrong from the first bar. Run the console to full automatic shutdown without recharging, then charge it back to 100% — the IC recalibrates against the new cell's actual curve during that first full discharge and the indicator will track correctly after that.

My 3DS plays for noticeably less time on the new battery than the old one did when it was new — what's wrong?

New Li-ion cells haven't completed their formation cycles and typically deliver 80–90% of rated capacity out of the box. The 3DS fuel gauge mismatch compounds this, making it feel worse than it is. Run three to five full discharge-and-recharge cycles and capacity will climb to the cell's rated 5000mAh. Track it by timing from full charge to automatic shutdown — it should increase measurably each cycle.

The 3DS battery indicator still reads two bars but the console shuts off mid-game — why is it cutting out early?

This is a voltage sag issue. Under the combined load of the screen, wireless, and processor, the cell voltage briefly drops below the BMS cutoff threshold even though the average state of charge looks higher. It's most common when the fuel gauge IC hasn't recalibrated yet. Complete one full discharge-to-cutoff cycle so the IC sets an accurate empty reference, then confirm the cell rests at or above 3.6V after a few minutes off charge.
