Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Nokia Lumia 950 XL — 3.85V Li-ion Replacement Battery (BV-T4D)
This is a 3350mAh, 3.85V Li-ion cell replacing the OEM BV-T4D in the Nokia Lumia 950 XL, Lumia 950 XL Dual SIM, and Cityman. It slots into the removable battery compartment and connects to the same BMS contact points as the original. Capacity is 3350mAh (12.9Wh) — matching OEM spec.
- 950 XL and Cityman platform fit: The Lumia 950 XL and its Dual SIM variant share the same battery bay dimensions, contact layout, and BMS handshake protocol — this cell covers all three. The Cityman codename uses the identical hardware platform, so compatibility carries across without modification.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through a full charge cycle on the 950 XL. The BMS accepted the charge handshake on the first connection, the Qualcomm Quick Charge circuit engaged normally, and the fuel gauge IC tracked voltage across the full discharge curve without reporting anomalies.
- Fuel gauge recalibration on first cycle: After installation, disable fast charging for the first complete discharge-charge cycle. The fuel gauge IC on the 950 XL is calibrated to the old cell's discharge curve. Running one slow cycle lets the coulomb counter recalibrate against the new cell before high-current charging is applied to an uncalibrated state.
Sudden shutdown at 20–30% on the replacement cell
This happens because the fuel gauge IC still holds the discharge curve of the degraded original cell in memory. When the replacement cell's actual voltage drops below the old curve's predicted threshold — typically around 3.6V under modem or display load — the phone interprets it as a critical low and cuts power. The fix is a full uninterrupted discharge to 0% followed by a complete charge to 100%, which forces the IC to rewrite its curve. After one cycle, shutdowns at 20–30% stop in most cases.
USB-PD fast charge not working after cell swap
On the first charge cycle after fitting a new cell, the 950 XL's charge IC sometimes refuses to negotiate the USB-PD fast charge handshake because it detects a high-impedance cell — a characteristic of a new, uncharged Li-ion cell at rest. The device falls back to standard 5V charging until the cell has been partially conditioned. Plug into the OEM charger or a USB-PD charger and allow one full standard-rate charge cycle to complete. Fast charging typically resumes from the second cycle onward.

Frequently Asked Questions
My Nokia Lumia 950 XL keeps shutting off at around 25% after I put in the new battery — is something wrong with the cell?
Nothing is wrong with the cell. The fuel gauge IC carried over its discharge curve from the degraded original battery, so it miscalculates the remaining capacity on the new cell and triggers a low-voltage cutoff early. Run one complete discharge to 0% — let the phone shut itself off naturally — then charge uninterrupted to 100% without fast charging enabled. After that single calibration cycle, the shutdowns at 20–30% should stop.
The battery percentage on my 950 XL is jumping around erratically — it showed 60%, then jumped to 40% in a few minutes without heavy use.
Erratic percentage jumps are a coulomb counter symptom, not a cell fault. The fuel gauge IC on the Lumia 950 XL uses a learned discharge curve; when a new cell with a different impedance profile is installed, the counter loses track of its position on the curve and corrects itself in sudden steps. One full slow discharge-to-zero followed by a full charge resets the learned curve. Keep the phone off the charger until it shuts down at 0%, then charge straight to 100% — the gauge stabilises after that cycle.
My 950 XL gets noticeably warm near the battery during the first few charges with the new cell — should I be concerned?
Mild warmth during early charging cycles on a new cell is expected. A fresh Li-ion cell starts with higher internal impedance than a conditioned one, and the charge IC has to work slightly harder to push current in — that extra resistance converts to heat. Temperature should drop to normal levels by the third or fourth charge cycle as the cell conditions. If the device becomes hot to the touch or the OS triggers a temperature warning, stop charging and let it cool to room temperature before resuming at a lower charge rate.
