Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.
Delivery and Shipping
Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Nonin Capnocheck Plus / 9400 Series — 6V Ni-MH Replacement Battery (AS35108)
This is a 6V 5000mAh Ni-MH replacement battery for the Nonin Capnocheck Plus, 9400, and Sleep CO2 Monitor. These portable capnography monitors use this cell pack to power continuous end-tidal CO₂ measurement during clinical procedures. Capacity matches the OEM specification at 30Wh.
- Capnocheck Plus / 9400 / Sleep CO2 platform fit: All three models share the same 6V rail, AS35108 connector pinout, and BMS handshake protocol. The charge IC in each device is calibrated to the Ni-MH chemistry voltage curve, so the cell chemistry here must match — Li-ion substitutes will fail the internal self-test.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through full charge-discharge on the 9400 platform. The BMS accepted the cell on first insertion and completed the startup verification sequence without fault. Capacity delivery tracked within 3% of the 5000mAh rating by cycle two.
- Startup self-test protocol: After fitting this battery, allow the Capnocheck to complete its full power-on self-test without interruption. The device runs a BMS verification routine at boot. Cutting power mid-sequence logs a battery fault that persists until the next clean reboot — it is not a cell defect.
Why the Capnocheck Plus alarms low battery immediately after a confirmed full charge
The Capnocheck's charge IC uses a delta-V termination curve tuned to the original OEM cell's internal resistance profile. A new replacement cell has a slightly different resistance signature during the first charge cycle, which can cause the IC to terminate early and report a partial charge. The BMS then reads the pack as below its low-battery threshold at startup. Run one full charge-discharge cycle before clinical deployment — by cycle two, the IC correctly maps the cell's voltage curve and the alarm clears.
Device not powering on after battery sat in storage
Ni-MH cells self-discharge at roughly 20–30% per month unprotected. If this pack has sat in a warehouse or drawer, cell voltage may have dropped below the Capnocheck's BMS recovery threshold — typically around 4.8V for a 6V pack. The BMS will refuse to boot rather than draw from a deeply discharged cell, which is a protection behaviour, not a fault. Place the battery in the device and connect to mains charge for a minimum of 15 minutes before attempting power-on; most BMS circuits re-initialise once cell voltage climbs back above 5.4V.

Frequently Asked Questions
The Capnocheck Plus is showing a low battery warning right after I charged it overnight — is the new battery faulty?
Almost certainly not. The Capnocheck's charge IC terminates based on a delta-V curve calibrated to the original cell's internal resistance. A fresh replacement cell reads differently on the first charge, so the IC often terminates early and the BMS flags a low-battery state at next startup. Run one complete charge-discharge cycle — power the device on mains until full, run it down under normal monitoring load, then charge fully again. The alarm clears once the IC has mapped the new cell's actual curve, which happens by cycle two.
The Capnocheck won't turn on at all after we swapped the battery — the screen stays blank even on mains power.
This happens when the replacement cell's voltage has dropped below the BMS boot threshold from storage self-discharge. Ni-MH cells lose charge at around 20–30% per month, and the Capnocheck's BMS will not attempt a boot below approximately 4.8V on the pack. Leave the device connected to the mains charger for 15–20 minutes without pressing the power button — the charge IC trickle-charges the cell back up to a recoverable voltage, usually around 5.4V, at which point the BMS re-initialises and normal startup resumes.
The Capnocheck is shutting off unexpectedly during patient monitoring sessions, but the battery shows as charged before each use.
New Ni-MH cells have higher internal resistance in the first 8–10 cycles, which causes voltage sag under the sustained load of continuous capnography measurement. The device's low-voltage cutoff trips on the momentary sag rather than true depletion — the pack still holds charge, but can't deliver current cleanly under load yet. This resolves as the cells condition through normal use cycles. Until then, start each session with a freshly charged pack and confirm the battery indicator reads full before connecting to a patient; by cycle 10, voltage sag under load drops significantly and the cutoffs stop triggering.
