Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

NorthStar Green 710 — 14.8V Li-ion Replacement Battery (LIP8020)

This is a 14.8V, 4400mAh Li-ion battery for the NorthStar Green 710 laptop. It replaces OEM part numbers LIP8020, LIP8082, EM-G320L1, EM-G320L2, ES1-2200, and ES1-4400. If your original cell has degraded or failed, this restores mobile power to the Green 710.

  • Green 710 compatibility: All listed OEM part numbers share the same 14.8V four-cell configuration, connector pinout, and BMS handshake protocol — that is why the Green 710 platform accepts each of them interchangeably.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through charge, discharge, and full-load cycles on the Green 710. The BMS communicated correctly with the system board, and charge termination triggered cleanly at capacity without fault flags.
  • First-cycle calibration on the Green 710: After installing, run one full discharge until the laptop hibernates, then charge uninterrupted to 100%. This forces the Green 710's BIOS battery learn cycle to reset against the new cell and clears the false health warning that appears after every cell swap.

Green 710 shutting down at 20–30% after battery swap

This happens when the fuel gauge IC is still calibrated to the old, degraded cell. The new cell has a steeper voltage curve than the worn original, so the system reads a voltage cliff and triggers an emergency shutdown even though charge remains. It is not a fault with the replacement cell. Run two full discharge-to-hibernate cycles followed by uninterrupted full charges — after that, the fuel gauge IC recalibrates and the shutdowns stop.

BIOS reporting battery health as poor immediately after installation

The Green 710 BIOS reads health data from the battery's EEPROM. When a new cell is installed, the EEPROM data does not match the charge history the BIOS has stored from the old cell, triggering a poor health flag. This is a data mismatch, not a physical defect. Complete one full discharge-to-hibernate cycle, then charge to 100% without interruption — the BIOS learn cycle will overwrite the stale EEPROM reference and the warning clears.

Frequently Asked Questions

My Green 710 fuel gauge is jumping around — showing 60%, then suddenly 15%, then back up. What is going on?

The fuel gauge IC learned its reference points from your old, degraded cell. It has not yet mapped the voltage curve of the new 4400mAh cell, so the percentage readings are unreliable. Run two full discharge cycles — let the laptop hibernate on its own each time, then charge uninterrupted to 100%. After two cycles the IC recalibrates and the gauge stabilises.

System info on the Green 710 is showing the wrong Wh rating for this battery — it says something much lower than 65Wh. Is the cell faulty?

No. The Wh figure shown in system info is pulled from the EEPROM on the cell, and the value stored there reflects the OEM-rated capacity of the original chemistry — not a measured reading from the new cell. This is an EEPROM data difference, not a performance problem. The cell charges and discharges at full capacity regardless of what that field displays.

The Green 710 stops charging at around 80% and will not go higher. Is something wrong with the replacement battery?

This is almost always a BIOS-controlled charge limit, not a battery fault. Many NorthStar Green 710 units ship with a battery conservation mode enabled in BIOS that caps charging at 80% to reduce cell wear during long plug-in sessions. Enter BIOS setup at boot, locate the battery or power management section, and disable the charge limit or set it to 100%.
