Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Panasonic HHR-P505 Series — 3.6V Ni-MH Replacement Battery (P-P501)

This is a 3.6V 1300mAh Ni-MH replacement battery for Panasonic cordless phone handsets. It fits the HHR-P505, KX-FPC135, KX-FPC141, KC-TC917HSB, and over 190 additional Panasonic DECT handset models. Drop this in when the original pack no longer holds a charge through a normal day of calls.

  • HHR-P505 and P-P501 series handsets: These handsets share a 3.6V three-cell NiMH pack format with a standardised connector and cell arrangement. The base station charges via a constant-current trickle matched to this chemistry — swapping like-for-like keeps that charge circuit working correctly.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this pack through the HHR-P505 handset charge cycle and confirmed the base station accepted the battery without error, the BMS reached full charge cutoff, and voltage held stable at 3.6V under simulated call load.
  • First-charge protocol for NiMH handset packs: After installing, seat the handset in the base for a full 16 hours before first use. NiMH cells in cordless phones need a slow initial charge to reach rated capacity — skipping this leaves you with a noticeably shorter first few cycles.

Range drops after battery swap on HHR-P505 handsets

The HHR-P505 DECT radio module draws a spike of current during transmission. If the NiMH pack is not fully conditioned, its internal resistance is higher than normal, causing voltage to sag under that RF load. The handset compensates by reducing transmit power, which cuts your usable range. After three to five full charge-discharge cycles, internal resistance drops and range returns to normal.

Base station shows no charge or error light with new battery installed

NiMH batteries discharged during storage can sit below the voltage threshold the base station needs to begin a charge cycle. The base reads the pack as absent or faulty and shows no charge indicator. To recover, place the handset in the base for at least 30 minutes without disturbing it — most Panasonic bases will detect a rising voltage and enter normal charge mode once the pack climbs above approximately 3.0V. If the error persists past an hour, remove and reinsert the handset to reset the charge handshake.

Frequently Asked Questions

My HHR-P505 talk time is much shorter than the original battery after the swap — is the new battery faulty?

It is not faulty. NiMH cordless phone batteries need three to five full charge-discharge cycles before they reach rated capacity. The cells ship partially discharged and their capacity builds with each cycle. Run the handset down until it beeps, return it to the base for a full 16-hour charge, and repeat — by cycle four or five, talk time should match the rated 1300mAh output.

The handset lost its pairing with the base after I replaced the battery — how do I fix it?

Some Panasonic DECT handsets lose their pairing data when power is fully removed from the handset. The battery swap cuts all power to the registration memory. Re-register the handset at the base using the manual pairing sequence in your phone's manual — on most KX-series models, hold the locator button on the base for three seconds while the handset is powered on to trigger re-pairing.

The handset battery drains completely overnight even though it's sitting in the base — what's causing that?

This is a seating issue, not a battery fault. If the handset contacts are not making a clean connection with the base cradle, the base stops supplying charge current and the handset runs on standby draw alone — which will drain a 1300mAh NiMH pack by morning. Check that the handset clicks fully into the base and that both charging contacts on the handset and cradle are free of dust or corrosion. Clean the contacts with a dry cloth and reseat the handset firmly.
