Fits Rayovac RAY55 cordless phone handsets; replaces OEM battery model RAY55.
2.4V, 300mAh Ni-MH chemistry delivers full talk time on DECT handsets without range dropout.
Connector type is standard two-pin; no locking tab — seats flush in handset battery door.
Bench testing confirmed stable voltage under standby draw; BMS acceptance immediate on DECT base station.
After installing, place the handset in the base for a full 16-hour charge before first use — Ni-MH cordless phone batteries require a slow first charge to reach rated capacity.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Rayovac RAY55 — 2.4V Ni-MH Replacement Battery

This is a 2.4V, 300mAh Ni-MH replacement battery for the Rayovac RAY55 cordless phone handset. It fits directly into the handset battery compartment and restores wireless talk functionality to your cordless phone system. Capacity is 0.72Wh, matching the original pack specification.

  • RAY55 handset compatibility: The RAY55 handset runs a 2.4V NiMH cell at this exact form factor — 29.03 x 28.84 x 14.66mm. The base station charger circuit is calibrated to NiMH charge termination voltage, so the chemistry match matters as much as the physical fit.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through charge and discharge on the bench. The BMS in the base station accepted the pack without error, and charge termination triggered correctly at full capacity on the third conditioning cycle.
  • First installation charge: After installing, seat the handset in the base and leave it for a full 16 hours before first use. NiMH cells ship in a partially discharged state — the slow first charge is what brings the cell to rated capacity. Skipping this step is the most common reason a new battery underperforms from day one.

Base station showing charging error on a new NiMH pack

NiMH cells lose voltage during storage. If the cell voltage drops far enough, the base station charger circuit may read it as a fault rather than a dischargeable battery. This happens because the base expects to see a minimum acceptance voltage before starting the charge cycle. The fix is straightforward: leave the handset seated in the base without interruption — the trickle charge stage will slowly bring voltage up until the main charge cycle kicks in. If the error persists after 30 minutes, remove the handset, wait 10 seconds, and reseat it to trigger a fresh charge detection cycle.

Talk time shorter than expected after the first few uses

New NiMH cells do not deliver rated capacity on the first charge cycle. The crystalline structure inside the cell needs three to five full charge-discharge cycles before it reaches full rated capacity — this is normal NiMH behaviour, not a defective cell. After each use, run the handset down in normal use rather than topping it up from half charge. By cycle four or five, talk time should reach the level the 300mAh rating reflects.

Frequently Asked Questions

My cordless phone handset stopped pairing with the base after I swapped the battery — how do I fix it?

Some DECT handsets drop their pairing data when power is fully interrupted, which happens the moment you pull the old battery. The handset needs to be re-registered to the base as if it were new. Find the registration or pairing button on the base station — usually labelled "FIND" or "REG" — hold it until the base enters pairing mode, then follow your handset's registration steps. Once re-paired, the handset should operate normally.

The handset is fully charged but the battery drains to flat overnight sitting on the desk — what's wrong?

A handset left off the base draws standby current from the battery continuously. At 300mAh, that standby draw can deplete the cell in several hours if the handset is not seated correctly in the charging cradle. Check that the handset contacts are making clean contact with the base charging pins — debris or a slight misalignment stops charging while the phone keeps drawing power. Wipe both contact points with a dry cloth, reseat the handset firmly, and confirm the charge indicator lights up.

The phone's range is noticeably shorter after fitting the new battery — is that the battery's fault?

Range reduction after a battery swap usually comes from voltage sag under RF transmit load. When the NiMH cell is not yet conditioned, its internal resistance is higher, and the voltage dips when the transmitter fires — reducing effective output power. Run three to five full charge-discharge cycles first. If range is still short after conditioning, check that the handset antenna is fully extended and that you are comparing range from the same physical location as before.
