Why the HD CAM 295 shows a dead battery indicator on a partially charged replacement cell

Battery percentage jumping erratically during playback or recording

My HD CAM 295 says the battery is empty straight out of the box — is the replacement cell dead on arrival?

Insert the battery, connect the camera to charge via its internal circuit, and let it run to full without interruption. The battery percentage on my HD CAM 295 drops from 80% to 15% in seconds — then the camera keeps recording fine. What's happening?

The camera's voltage-threshold table is misreading the new cell's discharge curve. Lithium-polymer cells have a flatter mid-range profile than a degraded original battery, so the indicator skips ahead when the voltage crosses a threshold the BMS wasn't expecting. My HD CAM 295 runs fine during normal recording but cuts off earlier when I'm shooting in cold weather. Is the replacement cell at fault?

Cold temperatures reduce usable capacity in lithium-polymer cells — internal resistance rises and the BMS hits its low-voltage cutoff sooner than it would at room temperature. This affects all Li-Polymer cells, including the original. Let the camera warm back to room temperature before attempting to charge after a cold session.
