Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Phone Mate PM139BAT / PMP3905 / PMP3950 — 3.6V Ni-MH Replacement Battery

This is a 3.6V, 700mAh Ni-MH replacement battery for Phone Mate cordless phone handsets. It fits the PM139BAT, PMP3905, PMP3950, and PMP3955 handset lines, along with two additional compatible models. When the original pack stops holding a charge, this unit restores the handset to full operation.

  • PM139BAT and PMP-series handsets: These models share a 3.6V single-cell NiMH architecture with the same connector and physical footprint. The base station charges at a fixed voltage rail matched to this chemistry, so swapping in a Li-ion or different voltage pack will throw a charge error or damage the charging circuit.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through charge and discharge on compatible hardware. The BMS accepted charge within expected NiMH voltage parameters, and cell voltage held stable above the 3.0V cutoff under simulated standby and talk load.
  • First-charge protocol for NiMH cordless handsets: Place the handset in the base for a full 16-hour charge before first use. NiMH cells in cordless phones need a slow initial charge to distribute charge evenly across cells and reach rated 700mAh capacity — skipping this leaves the pack short of its full capacity from the start.

Base station showing no charge or error light after battery swap

NiMH batteries self-discharge during storage. If the cell voltage drops low enough, the base station's charge controller may not recognise a valid pack and will refuse to initiate a charge cycle. This is a voltage threshold issue, not a fault with the battery or base. Place the handset in the base and leave it undisturbed — most Phone Mate bases will trickle-charge a low pack until it climbs above the acceptance threshold, typically around 3.2V, at which point normal charging resumes.

Range drops noticeably during calls after the battery swap

A fresh NiMH pack that hasn't completed its first few charge cycles will sag under the RF transmit load the handset draws during a call. Voltage sag reduces the power available to the radio module, which cuts transmit strength and shortens effective range. This isn't a defective battery — it's a conditioning issue specific to NiMH chemistry. Run three to five full charge-and-use cycles and the cell's internal resistance will drop, reducing sag and restoring full transmit power.

Frequently Asked Questions

My Phone Mate handset shows a full charge but talk time is much shorter than it used to be — is the new battery faulty?

Not likely. NiMH cordless phone batteries need three to five full charge-and-use cycles before they reach rated capacity. Fresh off the shelf, cells have partially self-discharged and haven't been fully conditioned. Run the handset until it drops to low-battery warning, return it to the base for a full 16-hour charge, and repeat this cycle at least three times before judging talk time.

The handset lost its pairing with the base after I swapped the battery — how do I get it back?

Some DECT cordless phones store pairing data in volatile memory that resets when power is fully removed during a battery swap. The base station treats the handset as unregistered. Re-register the handset through the base station's pairing or registration mode — on most Phone Mate bases, hold the page/find button for five seconds until the registration light flashes, then follow the handset prompts to re-pair.

The battery drains overnight even though the handset is sitting in the base — what's causing that?

This points to a seating issue rather than a battery fault. If the handset isn't fully seated in the base cradle, the charging contacts don't make consistent connection, and the handset runs on battery in standby rather than drawing from the base. Remove the handset, inspect the charging contacts on both the handset and base for dust or oxidation, clean with a dry cloth, and reseat the handset firmly until it clicks into position.
