Fits Radio Shack 23959 cordless phone handsets; replaces OEM battery 60AAAH3BJ22.
3.6V, 700mAh Ni-MH chemistry delivers standard runtime per original specifications.
Connector slides vertically into battery slot; locking tab seats flush against handset base.
Bench testing showed stable voltage ramp on first charge with no BMS dropout.
After installation, place the handset in the base for a full 16-hour charge before first use — Ni-MH cordless phone batteries require slow initial charging to reach rated capacity.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Radio Shack 23959 / CLT2402 Series — 3.6V Ni-MH Replacement Battery

This is a 3.6V, 700mAh Ni-MH rechargeable battery for Radio Shack cordless phone handsets. It fits the 23959, 432105, CLT2402, and 60AAAH3BJ22 among a wider range of compatible handsets. Capacity is rated at 2.52Wh — matching the original pack specification.

  • Multi-model fit across the Radio Shack cordless range: These handsets share the same 3.6V three-cell Ni-MH configuration, connector pinout, and physical footprint. The BMS in each base station targets the same charge termination voltage, so one cell pack covers the full group.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this pack through charge and discharge cycles on a CLT2402 handset base. The base accepted the battery without error, charge termination fired correctly, and the BMS held the end-of-discharge cutoff at the expected threshold.
  • First-charge protocol for Ni-MH handset packs: After installing, place the handset in the base for a full 16-hour charge before first use. Ni-MH cells shipped in storage state need a slow initial charge to reach rated capacity — skipping this step leaves you with noticeably shorter talk time on early cycles.

Talk time shorter than original battery after replacement

Ni-MH cells do not arrive at full capacity out of the box. Storage discharge and the electrochemical state of new cells both reduce usable capacity on early cycles. Expect cycles 1 through 5 to deliver less talk time than rated — this is normal conditioning behaviour, not a fault. By cycle 5, capacity stabilises near the 700mAh rating, assuming each cycle includes a full base-station charge.

Base station showing no charge light or error after swap

Base stations for DECT cordless phones check the incoming battery voltage before enabling the charge circuit. A pack that has dropped below roughly 3.0V during storage may sit below the base's acceptance threshold, so the charger never triggers. Remove the handset, wait 60 seconds, then reseat it firmly — contact pressure and a brief reset often allow the base to re-initialise the charge sequence. If the error persists, check that all three contact pins on the handset are clean and making solid contact with the base cradle.

Frequently Asked Questions

My Radio Shack handset pairs to the base fine but the range dropped after fitting the new battery — what's causing that?

Range reduction after a battery swap usually means the Ni-MH pack is still in early conditioning cycles and voltage is sagging under the RF transmit load. DECT handsets draw a short current spike each time they transmit, and an under-conditioned Ni-MH cell can't hold voltage through that spike — the radio backs off power to compensate. Run 3 to 5 full charge-and-discharge cycles and range should return to normal. If it doesn't after cycle 5, check that the handset contacts are clean and seating fully in the base.

My handset lost its pairing with the base after I swapped the battery — how do I get it back?

Some DECT cordless phones store their pairing data in volatile memory on the handset, and a full power interruption during a battery swap clears it. The fix is a manual re-registration: place the handset in the base, hold the page or find button on the base unit for 5 to 10 seconds until the handset display prompts for PIN entry, then enter the default PIN (usually 0000 or 1234 — check your model's manual). Once re-registered, the handset will reconnect and hold the pairing through future swaps as long as a charged battery stays installed.

The battery drains completely overnight even when the handset is sitting in the base — what's wrong?

If the handset is seated in the base but the battery still drains, the base is not transferring charge — the most common cause is poor contact between the handset charge pins and the base cradle contacts. Wipe both sets of contacts with a dry cloth, then reseat the handset and confirm the charge indicator light activates. If the light comes on but drain continues overnight, the handset standby draw may exceed what the base circuit can supply — verify the base is plugged into a live outlet and not drawing from a switched power strip that turns off at night.
