The Rescue Life is a clinical-grade AED used in emergency cardiac resuscitation, so battery condition is critical to device readiness.

A pack stored for several months can drop below 10V — the threshold below which the Rescue Life's BMS will not initiate boot. Placing the battery on charge first without fitting it to the device brings voltage back above the 12V recovery floor. Once the charger confirms voltage is above 12V, fit the pack and power on normally.

The charge indicator on my Rescue Life stopped at around 90% and won't reach 100% on the first charge of the new battery — is this normal?

Yes. The Rescue Life's charge IC applies a conservative current limit on the first charge of a new Ni-MH cell to avoid overcharging an unconditioned pack. This is intentional — the device reads 90–95% until the cell's internal resistance drops after the first full cycle. Let the pack complete a full discharge through normal device operation, then recharge fully. On the second charge, the indicator will reach 100%.
