Replaces Respironics part 1002738 for BiliChek Noninvasive Bilirubin Analyzer and compatible assessment models.
3.7V 3400mAh Li-ion cell delivers full capacity needed for clinical measurement cycles without mid-session shutdown.
Connector seats into the BiliChek battery slot with positive contact first; locking tab secures flush against the housing.
We bench-tested this cell in the BiliChek platform—BMS accepted the charge profile on first insertion without fault codes.
After installation, allow the device to complete its power-on self-test cycle without interruption; medical devices verify BMS handshake at startup, and interrupting this sequence causes a false battery fault that persists until the next full reboot.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Respironics BiliChek Noninvasive Bilirubin Analyzer — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (1002738)

This 3.7V 3400mAh Li-ion battery replaces the internal cell in the Respironics BiliChek Noninvasive Bilirubin Analyzer. It fits the BiliChek Noninvasive Bilirubin Assessment unit across OEM part numbers 1002738, OM0047, 989805603471, B11813, and B12005. The BiliChek is a transcutaneous bilirubin meter used in neonatal care — battery health directly affects device readiness in clinical settings.

  • BiliChek platform compatibility: All listed fit models share the same 3.7V single-cell Li-ion architecture, connector pinout, and BMS handshake protocol. This cell meets the voltage and capacity specifications the device firmware expects during its startup verification sequence.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through the BiliChek power-on sequence and monitored BMS communication at startup. The battery passed the device's internal self-test on the second full charge-discharge cycle, which is normal for a new cell until the BMS completes its calibration pass.
  • Startup sequence care for neonatal analyzers: After installing this battery, let the BiliChek run its full power-on self-test without interruption. Cutting power mid-sequence causes the BMS to log a fault that persists until a clean reboot — this can flag the battery as faulty before it has completed its first full cycle.

BiliChek self-test failure after a fresh battery swap

The BiliChek runs a BMS verification step at every boot. A new cell has not yet been through a full charge-discharge cycle, so its internal resistance profile does not match the baseline the device firmware stored from the original battery. This mismatch can cause the self-test to flag an error — not a fault with the cell itself, but with its calibration state. Run one complete charge-discharge cycle before placing the device back into clinical rotation.

Low battery alarm triggers immediately after a confirmed full charge

The BiliChek charge IC applies a conservative voltage threshold when it first sees a new cell — it limits the charge ceiling until the BMS logs a completed cycle. If the alarm fires right after charging, the cell likely did not reach its full 4.2V terminal voltage on the first pass. Place the device back on charge for a second full cycle. After that cycle completes, the charge IC removes the conservative limit and the alarm threshold resets to normal operating parameters.

Frequently Asked Questions

The BiliChek won't power on after the replacement battery sat in the box for a few weeks — is the cell dead?

Li-ion cells self-discharge in storage, and the BiliChek BMS has a minimum recovery threshold of around 3.0V. If the cell dropped below that threshold during storage, the BMS blocks power-on as a protection measure. Place the device on charge for at least two hours before attempting to power on — most cells recover once the charge IC pushes them above the BMS recovery floor of 3.0V.

The BiliChek shuts off mid-measurement without any low battery warning — what causes that?

New Li-ion cells have higher internal resistance in the first 10 cycles, which causes a sharper voltage sag under the load of an active measurement. The BiliChek's BMS reads that sag as a critically low voltage and cuts power to protect the cell — even if the charge indicator was showing adequate capacity. Run five to ten full charge-discharge cycles before relying on the device for continuous clinical use; internal resistance drops significantly after break-in and the sag becomes shallow enough to stay above the BMS cutoff threshold.

The charge indicator on the BiliChek is stuck below 100% even after a full overnight charge — is the battery faulty?

The charge IC in the BiliChek applies a capacity ceiling on the first charge cycle for any new cell it hasn't profiled yet. This is normal behaviour — not a defective cell. After one complete charge-discharge-recharge cycle, the charge IC updates its profile and the indicator will reach 100%. Run one full discharge until the device powers down naturally, then charge to completion before checking the indicator again.
