Fits Samsung Galaxy A02, Galaxy A02 2021, SM-A022F, and SM-A022M/DS; replaces OEM part HQ-50S.
This 3.85V 4900mAh lithium-polymer cell restores full capacity to the A02's processor, display, and modem draw.
Connector slides into the battery slot with the contact pads facing the device PCB; no locking tab present.
We charged this cell in an A02 test unit; the fuel gauge IC accepted the new discharge curve without early cutoff errors.
On first use after installation, disable fast charging for one complete discharge-charge cycle to let the coulomb counter recalibrate against the new cell's voltage profile.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Samsung Galaxy A02 — 3.85V Li-Polymer Replacement Battery (HQ-50S)

This is the HQ-50S lithium-polymer cell for the Samsung Galaxy A02 (SM-A022F, SM-A022M/DS and related variants). It fits the 2021 A02 lineup where the original cell has degraded and can no longer hold a charge. Capacity is 4900mAh at 3.85V nominal, matching the OEM specification.

  • SM-A022 variant coverage: The SM-A022F, SM-A022M/DS and associated regional variants all share the same battery bay geometry, connector pinout, and BMS handshake protocol — one cell fits the full A02 family without modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through charge and discharge cycles on SM-A022F hardware. The BMS accepted the cell on first connection, voltage sat at 3.85V nominal under load, and charge termination triggered cleanly at full capacity with no fault codes.
  • Fuel gauge recalibration tip: On first use after installation, disable fast charging and run one full discharge-to-charge cycle. This lets the fuel gauge IC map its coulomb counter against the new cell's actual discharge curve before high-current charging begins on an uncalibrated cell.

Sudden shutdown at 20–30% on the A02 after a cell swap

This happens because the fuel gauge IC on the A02 is still reading the discharge curve of the old, degraded cell. When the new cell hits a voltage point the gauge hasn't mapped yet, the phone interprets it as a critical low-voltage event and cuts power. The fix is a full calibration cycle — run the phone down to automatic shutdown, then charge uninterrupted to 100% with fast charging off. After one complete cycle, the coulomb counter resets and the percentage display stabilises.

USB fast charge not triggering after replacement

On the first charge cycle after fitting a new HQ-50S, the A02's charge IC sometimes falls back to standard 5V charging rather than negotiating the higher-current profile. This occurs because the BMS on a fresh cell reports a high internal impedance state, which causes the charge IC to throttle back as a precaution. Let the first charge complete fully on a standard charger without interruption. On the second cycle, fast charging typically re-negotiates correctly once the BMS has logged an initial full cycle.

Frequently Asked Questions

My Samsung A02 won't turn on at all after the replacement battery sat in a drawer for a few months — is it dead?

Most likely the cell dropped below the BMS lockout threshold of around 2.5V during storage, and the protection circuit has disabled discharge entirely. Connect the phone to a wall charger — not a PC port — and leave it for 20–30 minutes without pressing any buttons. The charge IC will trickle current into the cell until voltage recovers enough for the BMS to unlock. If the charging indicator appears within that window, the cell is recovering; if nothing appears after 45 minutes on a known-good charger, test with a second cable before drawing any other conclusions.

The battery percentage on my A02 keeps jumping around — it'll show 60%, then suddenly drop to 41% and bounce back up. What's going on?

The fuel gauge IC is recalibrating its coulomb counter against the new cell's discharge curve and hasn't completed a full mapping cycle yet. This erratic jumping is normal for the first two or three charge cycles after a cell swap. Run two complete discharge-to-full-charge cycles with fast charging disabled, and the gauge will lock onto the new curve. After that, percentage readings should track smoothly without large jumps.

The A02 feels warm near the back panel while charging with the new battery — is that normal?

Some heat during charging is expected on the first few cycles. A fresh lithium-polymer cell has higher internal impedance than a well-cycled cell, so the charge IC dissipates more energy as heat until the cell's impedance drops after initial cycling. Keep the phone out of a case during the first two or three charges to let heat disperse freely. If the back panel becomes uncomfortably hot to hold — above approximately 45°C — switch to a lower-current 5W charger for the first cycle and step up to fast charging afterward.
