Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

SBC 368B — 3.6V Ni-MH Replacement Battery
This is a 3.6V, 1500mAh Ni-MH replacement battery for the SBC 368B cordless phone handset. It slots into the battery compartment in the handset body and powers the DECT radio, speaker, and display. Capacity figure is from the product specification — 5.4Wh total energy.
- SBC 368B handset fit: The 368B uses a 3.6V single-cell Ni-MH pack sized at 49.00 × 42.90 × 14.74mm. This replacement matches that voltage rail and physical footprint. The handset charging circuit expects Ni-MH chemistry — a Li-ion pack at the same voltage would behave differently under trickle charge and should not be substituted.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through charge and discharge on a Ni-MH-capable tester. The BMS accepted trickle charge from the base station without flagging an error. Capacity reached rated output after three full conditioning cycles, which is normal behaviour for Ni-MH cells from storage.
- First charge on the 368B: After installing, seat the handset in the base and leave it for a full 16 hours before first use. Ni-MH cordless phone packs arrive partially discharged from storage. A slow first charge lets the cells reach rated capacity — skipping this step will result in shorter talk time on the first few uses.
Range reduction on the 368B after a battery swap
Ni-MH voltage drops under RF load — the DECT transmitter in the 368B draws a short current spike every time it sends a signal burst to the base. A fresh pack straight from storage sits at a lower state of charge, so that voltage sag is larger than it would be on a fully conditioned cell. The handset interprets sustained low voltage as a weak battery and may reduce transmit power or drop the link. Run three full charge-discharge cycles and the resting voltage stabilises, which keeps the transmit rail within spec during peak draw.
Base station shows no charge light after fitting new battery
Ni-MH packs shipped from storage can sit below 3.0V, which is under the acceptance threshold some 368B base charger circuits use to detect a valid pack. The base sees the low voltage and withholds charge rather than risk reverse-polarity damage to a deeply discharged cell. Remove the handset, wait 10 seconds, then reseat it firmly — the base retries detection on each insertion. If the charge light still does not appear, check that the handset contacts and base cradle contacts are clean and making full metal-to-metal contact; a thin film of oxidation raises contact resistance enough to drop the detected voltage below 3.0V.

Frequently Asked Questions
My SBC 368B talk time is much shorter than it used to be — is the new battery faulty?
Not likely. Ni-MH cells ship in a partially discharged state and need three to five full charge-discharge cycles before they reach rated capacity. After the first charge, talk time will be noticeably short — this is normal cell behaviour, not a defect. Run the handset down until it beeps low, return it to the base for a full charge, and repeat that cycle three times. By cycle four, capacity should be at or near the rated 1500mAh.
My 368B handset stopped pairing with the base after I replaced the battery — how do I fix it?
Removing the battery cuts all power to the handset, and some DECT phones clear their pairing registration when power drops to zero. The handset needs to re-register with the base as if it were new. Press and hold the page or find button on the base for about five seconds until the base enters registration mode, then follow the pairing sequence in the 368B manual — typically pressing a register button on the handset within 60 seconds.
The 368B battery drains completely overnight even when it's sitting in the base — what's causing that?
Overnight drain points to the handset not making reliable contact with the base cradle charging pins. If the handset is even slightly misaligned, the trickle charge circuit does not engage and the handset runs on battery in standby the entire night. Remove the handset, inspect the two charging contacts on the handset base for any debris or corrosion, clean them with a dry cloth, then reseat the handset and confirm the charge indicator light comes on. Standby draw on a DECT handset is low but continuous — an unseated handset will reach 0V by morning.
