  • S406 variant compatibility: The S406-HWD, S406-KDH, and S406-MKP all share the same 14.8V four-cell configuration and battery bay dimensions. The BMS expects the same charge termination voltage and connector layout across these variants, so one cell fits all of them.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran charge and discharge cycles on a representative unit. The BMS accepted charge without error flags, stepped through CC and CV phases cleanly, and terminated at the correct 16.8V float ceiling. No overcurrent trips or authentication faults were logged.

This happens when the cell voltage drops below the BMS protection threshold under combined CPU and display load, even though the OS fuel gauge still shows 20–30% remaining. The gauge is reading stored EEPROM data rather than real-time cell voltage, so the reported percentage is wrong. The fix is the same calibration cycle: discharge fully to hibernate cutoff, then charge uninterrupted to 100%. After two full cycles the fuel gauge IC tracks actual cell voltage and the premature shutdown stops.

The Schenker S406 is showing the new battery as "0%" or "unknown" in Windows — is the cell dead?

No — the fuel gauge IC is reading stale EEPROM data from the old battery and hasn't calibrated against the new cell yet. Discharge fully until the laptop hibernates on low-battery cutoff, then charge uninterrupted to 100% without interruption. After one or two full cycles the gauge syncs to actual cell voltage and the reading normalises. If it still shows 0% after two cycles, check the connector is fully seated in the bay.

The battery charges and works fine, but Windows reports the Wh rating as lower than the 38.48Wh listed — why?

The Wh figure Windows displays is pulled from the EEPROM on the battery's BMS, which may report rated capacity rather than the actual measured chemistry. This is a data field difference, not a cell defect. The cell itself will deliver its full 2600mAh at 14.8V under normal load. Confirm actual capacity by running one full discharge-to-hibernate cycle and checking the last full charge value in Windows Battery Report (powercfg /batteryreport).

The S406 charges to 80% and then the charge light goes off — is the charger or the cell faulty?

On many Schenker notebooks the BIOS includes a charge-limit setting that caps charging at 80% to reduce cell wear during extended AC use. Check the Schenker Control Center software or BIOS power settings for a "battery charge limit" or "conservation mode" option. Disabling that setting or setting the threshold to 100% will allow the cell to charge fully. This is a firmware control, not a fault in the replacement battery.
