Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Schiller Fred Easy / Fred EasyPort — 12V Li-MnO2 Replacement Battery (4-07-0001)
This is a 12V, 2800mAh (33.6Wh) lithium-manganese dioxide replacement battery for the Schiller Fred Easy, Fred Easy Life, Fred EasyPort Pocket Defibrillator, and MDR I. It matches the voltage rail and connector of the original Schiller cell. OEM cross-references include 4-07-0001, DDU899, FA 12-06466, HYB14-0007, HYB15-0040, HYB16-0052, HYB18-0075, and SCB3530126.
- Fred Easy / Fred EasyPort / MDR I platform fit: These models share the same 12V power architecture, battery footprint, and BMS handshake protocol. The Li-MnO2 chemistry is specific to this platform — it delivers stable discharge voltage under the high-current pulse load that defibrillation requires, without the voltage sag common to standard lithium cells.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through the Fred Easy's startup sequence and triggered the internal self-test cycle. The BMS accepted the new cell, completed charge verification, and cleared all battery fault flags without manual reset.
- Post-installation self-test protocol: After fitting this battery, allow the Fred Easy to complete its full power-on self-test without interruption. The BMS runs a chemistry verification step at boot — cutting power mid-sequence causes a persistent battery fault flag that will not clear until the device completes a full uninterrupted reboot cycle.
Why the Fred Easy triggers a low-battery alarm on a freshly installed cell
The Fred Easy's BMS compares the new cell's open-circuit voltage against a stored OEM baseline during the first self-test cycle. A fresh Li-MnO2 cell that has been in storage for several months may read slightly below the threshold the device expects, even though the cell is not discharged. This causes an immediate low-battery alarm that looks like a fault but is not. Run one full charge cycle after installation — the BMS recalibrates its reference point and the alarm clears.
Device not completing boot sequence after battery sat in storage
Li-MnO2 cells self-discharge slowly in storage, and if the cell voltage drops below approximately 10.5V the Fred Easy's BMS enters a protection state and refuses to initialise. The device appears completely dead — no screen, no tone, no response to the power button. Connect the device to its approved charger and leave it undisturbed for at least 60 minutes before attempting to power on. Once the charger brings the cell above the BMS recovery threshold, the boot sequence resumes normally.

Frequently Asked Questions
The Fred Easy is showing a low battery warning immediately after I put in the new battery — is the cell faulty?
It is not faulty. The Fred Easy's BMS checks the new cell's voltage against an OEM baseline on first boot, and a cell that has been in storage reads slightly low even when fully charged at the factory. Run one complete charge cycle through the device's own charger. The BMS resets its reference voltage after that cycle and the warning clears.
The Fred Easy won't power on at all after the battery swap — screen is blank and there's no startup tone.
The BMS has entered a deep-discharge protection state, most likely because the replacement cell sat in storage long enough to drop below the 10.5V recovery threshold. The device will not boot below that floor. Plug in the approved Schiller charger and leave it connected for at least 60 minutes without pressing the power button. Once the cell clears the recovery threshold, the boot sequence starts automatically.
The Fred Easy passed self-test after the swap but then shut off unexpectedly during a readiness check.
New Li-MnO2 cells have slightly higher internal resistance in their first 10 cycles, which causes a sharper voltage drop under the device's diagnostic load pulse. The Fred Easy interprets that sag as a critically low cell and trips the protection cutoff. This is not a defective cell — cycle the battery through three to five full charge-discharge sequences and rerun the readiness check. Internal resistance normalises across those cycles and the cutoff stops triggering.
