Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Shark 550R — 3.7V Li-Polymer Replacement Battery (PL552025)
This 3.7V 190mAh Li-Polymer battery replaces the OEM cell in the Shark 550R flashlight. It fits the 550R's compact battery bay and reconnects directly to the LED driver board. Capacity matches the original PL552025 specification at 0.7Wh.
- 550R platform fit: The 550R uses a single-cell Li-Polymer pack with a fixed 3.7V nominal rail feeding the LED driver. The PL552025 footprint — 26.50 × 20.34 × 5.00mm — is what locks this cell to that chassis. Any deviation in thickness or length will prevent the housing from closing.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through charge and discharge on the bench and confirmed the BMS protection circuit trips correctly at the low-voltage cutoff threshold, preventing cell damage under full LED draw.
- Driver load tip for the 550R: The 550R's LED driver pulls current in short high-intensity bursts. Avoid leaving the flashlight switched on in a bag or case unintentionally — parasitic drain at the driver level will pull the cell below its recovery threshold faster than standby self-discharge alone.
Shark 550R dimming before the battery indicator drops
The 550R's LED driver includes brownout protection that steps output down before the battery indicator registers low. This happens because the driver monitors voltage at the board, not at the cell terminal. At roughly 3.4V cell voltage, the driver reduces current to the LED rather than risk an uncontrolled cutoff. If the light dims noticeably but the indicator still shows charge, the cell is approaching its lower usable voltage — recharge now rather than continuing to draw.
550R light cycling through modes on its own near end of charge
Spontaneous mode-cycling near the end of a charge cycle is a driver response to voltage instability, not a firmware fault. As the cell sags under load, the driver briefly loses the voltage headroom it needs to hold a stable mode, resets, and re-initialises — which reads to the user as mode switching. Switch to the lowest output mode to stop the cycling. Recharge the cell; full charge restores the voltage rail to the stable operating range above 3.7V.

Frequently Asked Questions
My Shark 550R is draining its battery much faster than it used to — even on the standard mode. What causes that?
Li-Polymer cells lose usable capacity as they age through charge cycles, so the cell reaches its low-voltage cutoff sooner even though the driver draws the same current. A degraded cell may measure 3.7V at rest but sag quickly under the LED driver's load, triggering early cutoff. The 550R's compact cell format — 190mAh — means capacity loss is noticeable sooner than it would be in a larger pack. Replacing the PL552025 cell restores the original charge capacity and fixes the shortened runtime.
The 550R won't power on at all after sitting unused for several months. Is the battery dead?
Deep self-discharge is common in small Li-Polymer cells left unused. If the cell has dropped below approximately 3.0V, some chargers will not initiate a charge cycle because the voltage reads as a fault condition. Connect it to the charger and leave it for at least 30 minutes — some chargers apply a trickle pre-charge to recover cells in this state. If the charger shows no activity and the cell reads below 2.5V on a multimeter, the cell has discharged past safe recovery and needs replacement.
The Shark 550R gets noticeably warm during charging and the charge seems to stop early. What's happening?
A Li-Polymer cell that generates significant heat during charging is typically showing internal resistance increase — a sign of cell ageing or prior over-discharge damage. High internal resistance causes more energy to be lost as heat rather than stored charge, and the charger's safety circuit may terminate the charge cycle early as a result. Check the cell voltage immediately after charging stops: a healthy full charge should read between 4.1V and 4.2V. If the cell reads below 4.0V when the charger shows complete, the cell's internal resistance has risen too far and the PL552025 cell needs to be replaced.
