Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Sokkia Archer 2 / FC-500 Data Collector — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (1003778-01)
This 3.7V, 13600mAh (50.32Wh) lithium-ion battery replaces OEM part 1003778-01 in the Sokkia Archer 2 and FC-500 handheld data collectors. Both units are field-grade survey instruments used for GPS capture and measurement logging on construction and land survey sites. The cell format, connector, and BMS handshake match the original pack.
- Archer 2 and FC-500 compatibility: Both devices share the same battery bay dimensions, 3.7V power rail, and OEM connector pinout. The BMS in each unit reads the same charge-state protocol, so no firmware workaround is needed when swapping between these models.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this pack through charge, discharge, and GPS-active logging cycles on the Archer 2. The BMS held stable voltage under sustained sensor load and did not trip during data transfer to an external device.
- First-use calibration on the Archer 2: After installing, run a full calibration cycle through the instrument menu before field deployment. The Archer 2 maps battery state during calibration — skipping this step causes premature low-battery warnings during your first measurement session.
BMS cutoff when the Archer 2 initialises GPS or a connected sensor module
At power-up, the Archer 2 draws a brief current spike as it initialises the GPS receiver and any connected sensor modules. If the battery BMS registers this spike above its threshold — common with a partially discharged or freshly installed pack — it cuts output to protect the cells. This is not a fault in the instrument. Charge the replacement pack to 100% before first use and allow the BMS to complete its initial handshake with the device. A full charge brings cell voltage to approximately 4.2V per cell, giving the BMS enough headroom to pass the initialisation surge without tripping.
Archer 2 shows erratic charge percentage immediately after a new pack is installed
The Archer 2 uses a voltage-threshold indicator that references stored cell data from the previous pack. When a new battery is installed, the device has no baseline for the new cells and displays an inaccurate percentage — often jumping between readings on reboot. This resolves after one full charge-to-discharge-to-charge cycle, which forces the instrument to recalibrate its thresholds against the new cell voltage curve. Run that cycle through the instrument menu rather than just charging passively via USB. After the cycle completes, the indicator should track correctly from 4.2V down through the discharge range.

Frequently Asked Questions
The Archer 2 powers on fine but shuts off the moment I start a USB data transfer to my laptop — is the battery failing?
This is a combined-draw problem, not a failing cell. USB data transfer adds load on top of the active GPS and display draw, and if the pack is below roughly 3.6V per cell, the BMS trips the output to prevent under-voltage damage. Charge the battery fully before any transfer session and check that the USB cable is data-rated, not a charge-only cable — charge-only cables can cause the device to pull power from the laptop while transferring, creating an unstable voltage rail. Start the transfer with the indicator showing at least 80% charge.
The Archer 2 won't charge at all after sitting unused in the carry case for several months — is the pack dead?
A pack left discharged for months can drop below the BMS recovery threshold, typically around 2.5V, at which point the BMS enters a sleep state and refuses a standard charge cycle. Connect the charger and leave it for 45–60 minutes without interrupting — many BMS circuits will accept a trickle recovery current before unlocking full charge. If the device still shows no charge activity after that window, the cells have self-discharged past recovery and the pack needs replacement. This is why we recommend storing any spare pack at 40–60% charge rather than fully depleted.
My Archer 2 readings reset mid-logging session even though the battery indicator still shows charge remaining — what causes that?
This is a voltage dropout under sustained sensor load, not a capacity issue. During a long logging session, continuous GPS polling and sensor sampling pull steady current, and if the cells have any internal resistance from age or prior deep discharge, voltage sags momentarily below the instrument's operating threshold — causing a reset even while the indicator reads mid-range. A new pack with lower internal resistance eliminates the sag. After installing a replacement, run the calibration cycle through the instrument menu so the Archer 2 recalibrates its low-voltage cutoff threshold to the new cells before your next field session.
