Sony BT-098 — 4.8V Ni-MH Replacement Battery

This is a 4.8V, 1500mAh Ni-MH battery pack built to fit Sony cordless phone models BT-098 and BT098. It replaces the original handset battery when talk time drops or the phone stops holding charge. Drop it in, seat the handset in the base, and let it cycle through a few full charges.

• BT-098 and BT098 handset fit: Both model designations refer to the same Sony cordless handset platform. The cell arrangement, connector, and NiMH voltage curve match what the base station expects — 4.8V nominal across a four-cell pack.

Talk time shorter than original battery after replacement

NiMH cells need three to five full charge and discharge cycles before they reach rated capacity. A new pack fresh from storage will often deliver noticeably less talk time on the first and second cycle — this is normal chemistry, not a fault. Each full cycle conditions the cells and raises their usable capacity closer to the 1500mAh spec. If talk time is still short after five cycles, check that the handset is fully seated in the base during charging.

Base station shows no charge light or error after battery swap

Some Sony base stations reject a NiMH pack if its resting voltage is too low from storage — the charger circuit expects to see at least 4.0V before it begins the charge cycle. If the base shows no charge activity or flashes an error light, remove the battery, let it rest for 10 minutes, then reseat the handset firmly. If the base still does not respond, use a separate NiMH charger to prime the pack to 4.4V or above, then return it to the base.
