Fits Sony Xperia XZ2 Premium, Xperia XZ2 Premium Dual, H8116, H8166 — replaces LIP1656ERPC and 1310-1690.
3.85V, 3400mAh lithium polymer cell delivers full charge cycles to the 5.8-inch display and dual camera hardware.
Connector seats flush into the battery slot — no mechanical modifications needed for the original housing fit.
We bench-tested the cell on a discharge simulator — BMS accepted 3.85V nominal, no early cutoff detected under load.
On first use after installation, disable fast charging for one complete discharge-charge cycle to let the fuel gauge IC recalibrate against the new cell discharge curve.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Sony Xperia XZ2 Premium — 3.85V Li-Polymer Replacement Battery (LIP1656ERPC)

This 3.85V, 3400mAh (13.09Wh) Li-Polymer cell is a direct replacement for the Sony Xperia XZ2 Premium, covering model numbers H8116, H8166, and SOV38. It matches the original LIP1656ERPC specification for voltage, capacity, and physical dimensions (68.00 × 62.06 × 5.10mm). If the existing battery swells, no longer holds charge, or causes unexpected shutdowns, this cell restores normal device function.

  • H8116, H8166, SOV38 fit note: These three model numbers share the same battery bay geometry, flex connector pinout, and BMS communication protocol. Sony released them across different regional markets — JP, EU, and US — but the battery specification is identical across all three variants.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through charge and discharge cycles on an H8116 unit. The BMS accepted the cell without error flags, USB-PD handshake resumed normally after one full cycle, and the protection circuit tripped correctly at the low-voltage cutoff threshold.
  • Fuel gauge recalibration on first use: After installation, disable fast charging and run one full discharge down to automatic shutdown, then charge uninterrupted to 100%. This gives the fuel gauge IC one clean cycle to map the new cell's discharge curve before high-current charging pushes current into an uncalibrated cell.

Sudden shutdown at 20–30% on the Xperia XZ2 Premium after a cell swap

The XZ2 Premium's Snapdragon 845 and 4K HDR display create high instantaneous current draws that expose any mismatch between the fuel gauge IC's stored discharge curve and the new cell's actual voltage profile. The phone shuts down not because the cell is empty, but because voltage sags below the SoC threshold under load while the OS still reports 20–30% remaining. This is a calibration gap, not a defective cell. One full discharge-to-shutdown followed by an uninterrupted charge to 100% resets the coulomb counter and closes the gap.

USB-PD fast charging not activating on the first cycle after replacement

On the first charge cycle after installation, the XZ2 Premium's charge IC may fall back to standard 5V/0.9A input instead of negotiating the higher USB-PD voltage tier. This happens because the BMS on the new cell has not yet completed its initial handshake sequence with the phone's PMIC. Unplug the charger, wait 10 seconds, and reconnect — the PMIC reattempts the PD contract negotiation and typically locks onto the correct voltage tier (up to 9V) on the second attempt. If it does not, complete the first full discharge-charge cycle and fast charging will activate normally from the second cycle onward.

Frequently Asked Questions

My Xperia XZ2 Premium shuts off suddenly at around 25% after fitting the new battery — is the cell faulty?

The cell is almost certainly fine. The fuel gauge IC is still calibrated to the old cell's discharge curve, so it misreads the new cell's voltage under the high load from the Snapdragon 845 and 4K display. When voltage sags below the SoC threshold under that load, the phone shuts down even though the OS shows charge remaining. Run one full discharge to automatic shutdown, then charge uninterrupted to 100% — the coulomb counter resets and the shutdowns stop.

The battery percentage on my XZ2 Premium jumps around erratically after the swap — sometimes it drops 10% in seconds, then recovers.

This is the fuel gauge IC recalibrating against the new cell's discharge curve, and it is normal for the first one to three cycles. The IC uses a coulomb counter that was tuned to the original cell; with a new cell installed, it loses tracking accuracy at certain state-of-charge windows. Complete two full discharge-charge cycles without interruption and the percentage reading will stabilise. If erratic readings persist past three full cycles, check that the flex connector is fully seated — a partial connection causes intermittent voltage read errors at the fuel gauge.

The phone feels warm near the battery during charging — is that normal with a new Li-Polymer cell?

Some heat is expected on the first few charge cycles. A new Li-Polymer cell has slightly higher internal impedance than a cell that has been cycled, so the charge IC works harder to push current through it, generating more heat than usual. This settles after three to five cycles as the cell's impedance drops. If the back of the phone exceeds the point where it is uncomfortable to hold, switch to a standard 5W charger for the first full cycle rather than using fast charge — this reduces charge current and keeps temperatures in a safe range.
