Fits Spectra Precision Focus 6 and Focus 8 total stations, replacing OEM battery pack.
3.7V and 6400mAh capacity sustains full sensor and display operation through extended survey sessions without mid-measurement dropouts.
Single-cell Li-ion pack slides into the battery door slot with a positive terminal contact and spring retention tab.
We bench-tested this cell under continuous rangefinder and angle-measurement load — BMS held steady at 3.6V during sustained probe draws without thermal cutoff.
After installation, run the instrument's full calibration cycle from the menu before field deployment so the Focus maps battery state and prevents premature low-battery warnings on the first measurement session.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Spectra Precision Focus 6 / Focus 8 — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery

This 3.7V Li-ion battery at 6400mAh (23.68Wh) replaces the original pack in the Spectra Precision Focus 6 and Focus 8 robotic total stations. Both instruments run the same battery form factor, connector, and BMS handshake protocol. Dimensions are 67.90 × 39.50 × 25.60mm — confirm against your existing pack before ordering.

  • Focus 6 and Focus 8 shared platform: Both total stations use identical battery bays, voltage rails, and BMS communication lines. A single cell format serves the full pair, which is why one replacement SKU covers both units without modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through the instrument's power-on sequence, servo initialisation, and EDM ranging burst. The BMS held steady through motor-drive current spikes without tripping into protection mode.
  • Pre-deployment calibration cycle: After fitting this battery, run a full calibration sequence through the instrument's onboard menu before heading to site. The Focus 6 and Focus 8 map battery state during calibration — skipping this step causes premature low-battery warnings during your first measurement session, even with a fully charged pack.

BMS cutoff during servo motor initialisation on the Focus 6

When the Focus 6 powers on, it runs an automatic servo initialisation sweep that briefly spikes current draw beyond normal operating load. An aged or deeply discharged replacement pack can hit the BMS overcurrent threshold at exactly that moment, cutting power before the instrument fully boots. This is a cell-condition issue, not a firmware fault. Charge the new pack to 4.2V before first use and allow the BMS to complete one full charge cycle — this pre-conditions the protection circuitry for the motor-start surge.

Battery percentage jumping or resetting between power cycles

The Focus 6 and Focus 8 display fuel gauge readings tied to voltage thresholds stored from the previous pack. A new cell with different internal resistance will report inconsistent percentages — often jumping from 80% to 20% — until the instrument recalibrates its reference points. Run two full discharge-recharge cycles through normal field use without interrupting mid-charge. After the second cycle, the display percentage will stabilise and track accurately against actual cell voltage.

Frequently Asked Questions

My Focus 6 powers on fine but shuts down the moment I start a USB data transfer to the laptop — why?

USB data transfer adds a combined draw from the communication module and onboard processor on top of the instrument's standby load. If the pack voltage sags under that combined current, the BMS trips into undervoltage protection and cuts power. Charge the battery fully to 4.2V before any data offload session, and if the shutdown repeats, check that the USB cable is not simultaneously charging a second device — that doubles the draw and reliably triggers the cutoff.

The Focus 8 won't charge at all after sitting unused in the carry case for several months — is the battery dead?

A pack left unused for months can self-discharge below the BMS recovery threshold, typically around 2.5V per cell. Below that voltage, the BMS enters sleep mode and the charger sees an open circuit, so it never starts a charge cycle. Place the battery on the charger for 30–60 minutes anyway — many BMS circuits will attempt a trickle recovery charge if voltage is still above approximately 2.0V. If the charge indicator never activates after that window, the cells have dropped too far for recovery and the pack needs replacement.

Readings on the Focus 6 are drifting and resetting partway through a logging session — could the battery be causing this?

Yes. Sustained sensor load during a long logging session — EDM, servo tracking, and data recording running simultaneously — draws more current than standby operation. If the cell voltage drops momentarily under that load, the instrument's processor can brown-out and reset its measurement state mid-session without fully powering off. This is different from a full shutdown. Confirm the pack is fully charged before a logging session and check that the terminal contacts in the battery bay are clean and seated firmly — a resistive connection amplifies voltage sag under load.
