BMS lockout after the DA020F sat unused in a carry case for months
Li-ion cells self-discharge over storage. If the DA020F sat unused long enough, the pack voltage can drop below the BMS recovery threshold — typically around 2.5V per cell, or 5.0V combined. At that point the BMS enters a protection state and refuses to accept a charge signal from the instrument's internal charger. Connecting the pack to a lab bench supply or a compatible external charger at a low conditioning current (0.1C) for 15–20 minutes usually brings cell voltage back above the recovery floor. Once above approximately 6.0V combined, the BMS re-initialises and normal charging resumes.
DA020F shuts down mid-measurement with no low-battery warning
This is a voltage sag issue, not a capacity issue. Under sustained sensor load — particularly when probe modules draw initialisation current — the pack voltage can momentarily dip below the instrument's minimum operating threshold, triggering an immediate shutdown even though the charge indicator showed healthy. An aged cell with elevated internal resistance sags further under load than at rest, so the resting voltage looks fine but collapses under draw. If this pack shows the same behaviour after cycling, check that cell internal resistance hasn't climbed above roughly 150mΩ per cell — a battery analyser will confirm this in under two minutes.

Not necessarily faulty — this is voltage sag under sensor load. When the instrument powers a probe or begins active measurement, current draw spikes and a cell with elevated internal resistance drops below the instrument's cutoff voltage instantly, even if it showed a healthy charge at rest. We saw this on the bench when simulating sustained sensor load: resting voltage looked normal but collapsed under draw. Check internal resistance with a battery analyser — above roughly 150mΩ per cell means the pack needs replacement, not recalibration.
My DA020F won't recognise the new battery after the instrument sat in storage — the screen shows nothing and it won't charge.
The BMS has entered a deep-discharge protection state. After extended storage, cell voltage drops below the BMS recovery floor — around 5.0V combined for a 7.4V two-cell pack — and the BMS blocks all charge input to prevent damage. Connect the pack to an external Li-ion charger with a conditioning or recovery mode and let it run at a low current (0.1C) until combined voltage climbs above 6.0V. Once past that threshold, the BMS re-initialises and the instrument will recognise the pack normally.
Readings reset or the logging session drops data partway through a job — could the battery be causing this?
Yes — this is a voltage dropout under sustained sensor load, not a software glitch. If the pack voltage dips below the DA020F's minimum operating threshold mid-session, the instrument briefly loses power, resets its active process, and drops the unsaved log data. It often recovers fast enough that it looks like a firmware crash. Run the full calibration cycle through the instrument menu after installing a new pack — this lets the instrument map actual battery state and set accurate cutoff warnings before the next logging session.
