Fits Sprint PCD EC5072 and EC5072 Mobile Hotspot U3200 models; replaces OEM battery BTR5072B.
This 3.7V, 2000mAh cell delivers the full capacity required for multi-device hotspot sessions without early shutdown or voltage sag.
Connector seats flush into the battery compartment with a single locking tab; orient the gold contacts toward the device pins before pressing down.
We bench-tested this pack in the EC5072 under sustained WiFi broadcast to four connected devices; BMS held steady output voltage through the full discharge cycle.
On first charge after extended storage, the hotspot may not power on — if this happens, leave the battery in the charger for thirty minutes to restore boot voltage, then disconnect and retry.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Sprint PCD EC5072 / Mobile Hotspot U3200 — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (BTR5072B)

This is a 3.7V, 2000mAh Li-ion replacement battery for the Sprint PCD EC5072, Mobile Hotspot U3200, and PCDH5072HS portable Wi-Fi hotspot devices. It replaces OEM part number BTR5072B and fits the same battery compartment and connector. Capacity is rated at 7.4Wh.

  • EC5072 and U3200 platform compatibility: These models share the same battery bay, connector pinout, and BMS handshake protocol. The BTR5072B cell communicates state-of-charge data to the hotspot firmware using the same charge termination signal — no adapter or modification needed.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this battery on an EC5072 unit under simultaneous cellular modem and Wi-Fi radio load. The BMS maintained stable voltage delivery without triggering a low-voltage cutoff, and charge termination occurred correctly at full capacity.
  • Session ventilation for the EC5072: Keep the hotspot on a hard, flat surface during extended sessions — the cellular radio runs at maximum transmit power when connected devices are far away, pushing heat directly into the battery. Soft surfaces trap that heat and accelerate cell wear.

Why the EC5072 drops Wi-Fi connections mid-session on a new battery

When multiple devices connect simultaneously, the EC5072 runs both the cellular modem and the Wi-Fi radio at full output at the same time. This combined draw creates voltage sag — a brief dip below the hotspot's stable-operation threshold — even on a fully charged cell. The BMS interprets that dip as a fault condition and initiates a brief shutdown to protect the battery. If this happens repeatedly, check how many devices are connected and whether the hotspot is in a weak signal area, since low signal forces the modem to increase transmit power further.

EC5072 won't power on after sitting unused for weeks

Li-ion cells self-discharge during storage. If the EC5072 sat unused long enough, the battery voltage may have dropped below the device's minimum boot threshold — typically around 3.0V. At that level, the hotspot firmware cannot initialise and the unit appears completely dead. Connect the hotspot to its charger and leave it for at least 30–60 minutes before attempting to power on. If the charge LED activates, the BMS is recovering the cell; wait until the LED indicates a partial charge before pressing the power button.

Frequently Asked Questions

My EC5072 hotspot keeps dropping connected devices mid-session — could the new battery be causing this?

Yes, this is a voltage sag issue, not a faulty battery. When the cellular modem and Wi-Fi radio both run at full power — common when signal is weak or several devices are connected at once — current draw spikes and voltage dips briefly below the hotspot's stable-operation threshold. The BMS trips a short protective shutdown, which drops all connected clients. Reduce the number of connected devices or move the hotspot closer to a window to improve signal and lower modem transmit power.

The BTR5072B replacement battery drains noticeably faster than expected — what's pulling the extra power?

The biggest drain on the EC5072 is the cellular modem operating in a weak signal area. When signal is poor, the modem runs at maximum transmit power continuously, which can double the normal current draw compared to a strong-signal environment. Multiple connected devices compound this — each active client adds Wi-Fi radio overhead on top of the modem load. Move the hotspot to a location with stronger cellular signal and limit active client connections to reduce draw.

The EC5072 hotspot gets noticeably warm during long sessions — is that a problem for the battery?

Heat is the primary accelerant of Li-ion capacity fade. The EC5072's cellular radio generates significant heat at maximum output power, and that heat transfers directly to the battery compartment. Sustained temperatures above 40°C shorten cell life faster than normal cycling does. Place the hotspot on a hard, flat surface in open air during long sessions — never on a bed, couch, or in a bag — and give it a break every few hours if the casing feels hot to the touch.
