This is a 3.7V, 2000mAh Li-ion replacement battery for the Sprint PCD EC5072, Mobile Hotspot U3200, and PCDH5072HS portable Wi-Fi hotspot devices. It replaces OEM part number BTR5072B and fits the same battery compartment and connector. Capacity is rated at 7.4Wh.

  • EC5072 and U3200 platform compatibility: These models share the same battery bay, connector pinout, and BMS handshake protocol. The BTR5072B cell communicates state-of-charge data to the hotspot firmware using the same charge termination signal — no adapter or modification needed.

Why the EC5072 drops Wi-Fi connections mid-session on a new battery

When multiple devices connect simultaneously, the EC5072 runs both the cellular modem and the Wi-Fi radio at full output at the same time. This combined draw creates voltage sag — a brief dip below the hotspot's stable-operation threshold — even on a fully charged cell. The BMS interprets that dip as a fault condition and initiates a brief shutdown to protect the battery. If this happens repeatedly, check how many devices are connected and whether the hotspot is in a weak signal area, since low signal forces the modem to increase transmit power further.

EC5072 won't power on after sitting unused for weeks

Li-ion cells self-discharge during storage. If the EC5072 sat unused long enough, the battery voltage may have dropped below the device's minimum boot threshold — typically around 3.0V. At that level, the hotspot firmware cannot initialise and the unit appears completely dead. Connect the hotspot to its charger and leave it for at least 30–60 minutes before attempting to power on. If the charge LED activates, the BMS is recovering the cell; wait until the LED indicates a partial charge before pressing the power button.
