Fits Sunlite model 88158-SU emergency exit lights; replaces OEM part 88158-SU.
7.4V lithium-ion, 2600mAh capacity delivers full-duration runtime on mains failure.
Connector slides straight in; locking tab seats flush against the fixture housing.
We bench-tested the cell under continuous 500mA discharge — BMS held steady at 7.4V with no early cutoff.
Run a full test cycle within 24 hours of installation by pressing the test button for the rated duration; this confirms the cell accepts load and allows the charge controller to register the new capacity before compliance testing.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Sunlite 88158-SU — 7.4V Li-ion Replacement Battery (88158-SU)

This 7.4V, 2600mAh Li-ion battery replaces the factory cell in the Sunlite 88158-SU emergency lighting fixture, including the LED FIX BB213 and Strip variants. It supplies the backup power the fitting draws during a mains failure event. Voltage and capacity match the original specification exactly.

  • 88158-SU, LED FIX BB213 and Strip compatibility: These fittings share the same 7.4V charge rail and connector pinout, so one cell covers the full range. The onboard charge controller expects a two-cell Li-ion pack and will reject packs outside the 7.4V nominal window — this cell sits within that acceptance band.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through a full simulated mains-fail cycle. The BMS handed off to load cleanly at cutover, held voltage above the low-voltage cutoff threshold throughout the test duration, and returned to float charge without error on mains restore.
  • First-cycle test requirement: Within 24 hours of installation, hold the test button for the full rated duration. This lets the charge controller register the new cell and confirms the BMS accepts load before your next scheduled compliance inspection.

Charge indicator staying red after new battery installation

A fresh Li-ion cell shipped from storage often rests at 3.5–3.6V per cell — below the float acceptance window the 88158-SU charge controller expects. The controller sees this as an out-of-range input and holds the fault state rather than starting the charge cycle. Leave the fitting on mains for 12–24 hours. Once the cell climbs into the acceptance window, the controller enters normal charge mode and the indicator moves to green.

Emergency light dims partway through a duration test

This happens when the new cell has not completed a full conditioning charge before the test is run. The cell holds nominal voltage under light load but sags once the LED array draws sustained current. The fix is to charge the battery for a full 24-hour period on mains before running any test cycle. After one complete charge, the cell delivers its rated 2600mAh at stable voltage across the full test duration.

Frequently Asked Questions

The fitting passed installation but now shows a fault LED — the battery connection looks fine. What's causing it?

Some 88158-SU fittings latch the fault LED in firmware and do not clear it automatically after a new cell is installed. The fault state from the depleted original battery gets written to the controller and stays until manually reset. Disconnect mains power, remove the battery, wait 30 seconds for the controller to fully discharge, then reconnect both. This forces the controller to re-initialise and read the new cell as a clean start.

My emergency light passed the first test fine but failed the duration test three months later — the battery is less than a year old. Why?

Li-ion cells in emergency fittings are held on continuous trickle charge. If the fitting is mounted near a heat source or in a ceiling void with poor airflow, the charge controller applies trickle current at elevated temperature for months at a time, which accelerates capacity fade well ahead of the rated cycle life. Check the ambient temperature at the fitting location — sustained temperatures above 35°C will cause measurable capacity loss within one compliance period. Relocate the fitting away from heat sources where possible, or increase the test frequency to catch early degradation before a formal inspection.

The battery casing looks slightly swollen after being in the fitting for about two years. Is the fitting the problem?

Swelling in a Li-ion pack installed in an emergency light is almost always overcharge damage from continuous trickle charge at a voltage slightly above the safe float ceiling — this occurs when the charge controller ages and its regulation drifts upward. Do not reinstall a swollen cell. Replace the battery, then measure the float voltage at the battery terminals with a multimeter once the new cell is fully charged — it should read no higher than 8.4V. If the float voltage is above that, the charge controller in the fitting needs replacing before the new cell is installed.
