Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

DOTLUX EXITtop Series — 3.6V Ni-CD Replacement Battery (3682)

This is a 3.6V, 2000mAh Ni-CD cell pack for the DOTLUX EXITtop emergency exit light (Part No 3682). It fits the EXITtop fitting and the 3679 model. Voltage and capacity match the original cell specification exactly.

  • EXITtop and 3679 compatibility: Both models share the same charge controller circuit, cell voltage rail, and connector format. The 3.6V trickle charge profile and physical cell dimensions are identical across the two fittings, so one cell pack covers both.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell on the EXITtop charge board and confirmed the controller moved from bulk charge to float without triggering a fault LED. The BMS accepted the new cell without requiring a manual reset on the unit we tested.
  • First-cycle test protocol: Within 24 hours of installation, hold the test button for the full rated duration. This confirms the cell accepts load under emergency draw conditions and lets the charge controller register the new cell capacity before any scheduled compliance inspection.

Charge indicator staying red after new battery installation

A Ni-CD cell shipped from storage can sit at 1.0–1.1V per cell, which falls below the float acceptance window on the EXITtop charge controller. When the controller sees that low resting voltage, it holds the fault or charge LED red rather than advancing to green. Leave the fitting powered for 12–24 hours undisturbed. Once the cell climbs past the acceptance threshold — typically around 1.2V per cell, 3.6V total — the controller will switch the indicator to green on its own.

Emergency light dims partway through a duration test after battery replacement

A new Ni-CD cell that has not completed one full charge-discharge cycle will not deliver its rated 2000mAh on the first activation. The cell surface charge looks full, but usable capacity is below rated until the first proper cycle conditions the plates. If the light dims or cuts out before the end of the test duration, recharge for a full 24 hours and run the test again. One complete cycle is enough to bring the cell to rated capacity for compliance testing.

Frequently Asked Questions

The EXITtop failed its duration test right after I put in the new battery — do I have a faulty cell?

Almost certainly not. A fresh Ni-CD cell needs one full charge-discharge cycle before it delivers its rated 2000mAh. The cell arrives from storage with partial capacity, so the first test draw often ends early. Charge the fitting for a full 24 hours, then repeat the duration test — the cell should hold the load to the end of the rated period.

The charge LED on my EXITtop is still red 30 minutes after fitting the new battery — is the cell being rejected?

The EXITtop charge controller has a float acceptance window. A cell that has been in storage can rest below 3.6V, and the controller will hold the LED red until the cell voltage climbs past that threshold. Leave the fitting powered and undisturbed for 12–24 hours. Once the cell reaches approximately 3.6V, the controller will advance the indicator to green without any manual reset needed.

My EXITtop fitting is still showing a fault LED even though I've checked the connections and the cell is seated correctly — what's left to try?

Some EXITtop fittings latch a fault condition in firmware and will not clear it automatically after a cell swap. Power the fitting off completely at the circuit breaker for 30 seconds, then restore power. This forces a controller restart and lets it re-evaluate the new cell from a clean state. If the fault LED clears and the indicator moves to charge or float, the installation is confirmed good.
