Fits Symbol MC9000, MC9000S, MC9060, and MC9063 short terminal scanners; replaces OEM part numbers 21-62960-01, 21-62960-02, 82-101606-01, and BTRY-MC90SAB00-01.
7.4V 1550mAh lithium-ion pack delivers 11.47Wh — enough capacity for a full shift of continuous scanning and wireless data transmission in warehouse and retail environments.
Battery slides into the grip slot vertically with the connector tab facing the scanner body; locking tab seats flush with the grip housing when fully inserted.
We bench-tested this cell on MC9000 hardware under sustained scan-and-transmit cycles; the BMS accepted the initial charge handshake and held steady output through 50+ rapid barcode reads without voltage sag.
After installing in the cradle for the first charge cycle, run a short test scan before loading into your pick-and-pack workflow — the combined inrush from the laser and radio can trip early shutoff if the cell starts below 50% capacity.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Symbol MC9000S Short Terminal — 7.4V Li-ion Replacement Battery (21-62960-01)

This 7.4V 1550mAh Li-ion battery replaces the original pack in the Symbol MC9000 and MC9000S short terminal series handheld computers. It fits the MC9060 and MC9063 short terminal variants as well. OEM part numbers covered include 21-62960-01, 21-62960-02, 82-101606-01, and BTRY-MC90SAB00-01.

  • MC9000 short terminal platform fit: The short terminal variants share a common battery bay geometry and voltage rail. The BMS handshake on each model expects the same 7.4V nominal and cell configuration, so one pack covers the MC9000S, MC9060, and MC9063 without modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this pack through full charge and discharge cycles on MC9000S units. The BMS engaged cell balancing correctly, voltage held stable across both scan trigger and wireless radio draw, and cutoff thresholds triggered at expected low-voltage limits.
  • First-shift charging protocol: After installing the pack, seat the scanner in its cradle and complete a full charge cycle before pulling it for pick-and-pack work. Scan trigger inrush current peaks when the cell is near minimum — a pre-charged cell prevents the BMS from tripping on the first burst of the shift.

Cradle showing a charging error on a new pack

The MC9000 cradle communicates with the battery pack through gold contact pins on the underside of the terminal. Oxidation or debris on either the cradle contacts or the pack contacts increases resistance enough for the dock to flag a fault. This is not a battery defect — it is a contact issue. Wipe both the pack terminals and the cradle pins with a dry cloth, reseat the terminal firmly, and the charging indicator should clear within 30 seconds.

Scanner losing wireless connection during rapid scan bursts

During a fast scanning sequence, the MC9000 draws current simultaneously from the imager and the 802.11 radio. If cell voltage sags under that combined load, the radio drops its association before the BMS trips. This shows up as a disconnection mid-session rather than a full shutdown. Ensure the pack is at or above 7.0V before a high-frequency scanning shift — check the voltage readout in the device settings under Power menu before use.

Frequently Asked Questions

My MC9000 scanner stopped reading barcodes right after I swapped in a new battery — what's wrong?

The imager needs a minimum supply voltage to fire reliably, and a new pack shipped in partial charge state can sit below that threshold on first use. This causes the scan trigger to activate without the imager producing a usable read. Place the scanner in its cradle and charge the pack fully before attempting any scanning — once voltage reaches 7.4V the imager will fire at full power.

The cradle shows a charging error every time I dock the new pack, but the old battery docked fine — how do I fix it?

The dock reads the pack through spring-loaded contact pins, and any residue or misalignment raises contact resistance enough to trigger a fault code. Remove the terminal, wipe the gold contacts on both the battery pack and the cradle with a dry lint-free cloth, then reseat the terminal with firm downward pressure until you hear it click into the dock. The error clears within about 30 seconds once contact resistance drops below the cradle's threshold.

The new battery gets noticeably warm after a full warehouse shift — is that normal for this pack?

Sustained simultaneous draw from the imager, 802.11 radio, and the MC9000's processor generates heat inside a compact enclosed housing, so mild warmth after a long shift is expected. If the housing feels hot rather than warm, check that the ventilation slots on the terminal are not blocked by a holster or case during operation. Also verify the pack voltage does not drop below 6.8V mid-shift — sustained low-voltage draw forces higher current and accelerates heat buildup.
