Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.
Delivery and Shipping
Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

T-Mobile Comet U8150-B / Rapport — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (HB4J1)
This is a 3.7V, 1100mAh Li-ion replacement cell for the T-Mobile Comet, Comet U8150-B, and Rapport smartphones. It fits devices using OEM part numbers HB4J1 or HB4J1H. Swap it in when the original cell no longer holds a usable charge through a normal day.
- Comet and Rapport platform fit: The Comet U8150-B and Rapport share the same battery bay dimensions, connector pinout, and BMS handshake protocol — all three models accept this 54 x 43 x 5mm cell without modification.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through charge and discharge on a Comet U8150-B. The BMS accepted the charge curve correctly, protection circuits triggered at the expected voltage floor, and the fuel gauge IC tracked state of charge without error after the first full cycle.
- Fuel gauge recalibration on first use: After installation, run one complete discharge-charge cycle with fast charging disabled. The Comet's fuel gauge IC is calibrated to the old cell's discharge curve — one full cycle against the new cell resets the coulomb counter and prevents erratic percentage readings from the first week of use.
Sudden shutdown at 20–30% on the Comet after a cell swap
The Comet's fuel gauge IC stores a learned discharge curve from the original cell. A new cell has different internal resistance, so the voltage drops faster under modem or screen load than the IC expects. At around 3.5V under load, the phone's protection circuit cuts power — even though the reported percentage still shows 20–30%. One full discharge-charge cycle lets the coulomb counter remap to the new cell's actual voltage-to-capacity curve. After that cycle, shutdowns at false-high percentages stop.
Phone warm near the battery compartment on the first few charges
A new Li-ion cell has higher internal impedance than a broken-in cell. The Comet's charge IC pushes current into that higher resistance, generating more heat per charging cycle until the cell's impedance drops after a few cycles. This is normal and not a sign of a faulty unit. If the device stays warm beyond the third full charge, check that the back cover is fully seated — a lifted cover traps heat against the cell and can cause the charge IC to throttle current unpredictably. Confirmed normal temperature is below 40°C at the back cover surface.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why does my Comet show 25% battery and then shut off with no warning after I put in a new battery?
The fuel gauge IC on the Comet is still using the discharge curve it learned from the old, degraded cell. When the new cell hits roughly 3.5V under modem or display load, the protection circuit cuts power — but the IC still reports 25% because it hasn't recalibrated yet. Run one full discharge down to auto-off, then charge to 100% with fast charging disabled. After that single cycle, the coulomb counter remaps to the new cell and the false shutdowns stop.
The battery percentage on my Comet jumps around — goes from 60% to 45% in seconds, then back up. What's wrong?
This is the fuel gauge IC recalibrating against an unfamiliar cell. The IC's stored capacity model no longer matches the new cell's voltage-to-charge curve, so it corrects the displayed percentage in large steps as it collects new data. It is not a fault with the replacement cell. Complete two full discharge-charge cycles without interruption and the IC will settle — percentage jumps of more than 5% in under a minute should disappear by the end of the second cycle.
My Comet won't power on at all after the replacement battery sat in a drawer for a few months. How do I recover it?
If the cell self-discharged below approximately 2.5V during storage, the BMS has locked out the cell to prevent damage from over-discharge. Plug the phone into a wall charger — not a USB port — and leave it for 20–30 minutes without pressing the power button. The charge IC will trickle current into the cell at a low rate until voltage climbs back above the BMS unlock threshold, at which point the phone will either boot or show the charging indicator. If no response appears after 45 minutes on a wall charger, the cell discharged below the recovery floor and will need replacement.
