Fits MetroPCS HWM835-R smartphone; replaces OEM battery HB4J1 and HB4J1H.
3.7V, 1100mAh lithium-ion cell delivers 4.07Wh to restore full charge cycles on aged devices.
Connector slides into original battery slot; no locking tab — seats flush and sits level.
Bench testing showed normal BMS curve on discharge; fuel gauge IC reads old cell data initially.
On first charge cycle, disable any fast-charge setting in phone settings to let the coulomb counter recalibrate against the new cell's discharge profile before resuming standard charging.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

MetroPCS HWM835-R — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (HB4J1)

This is a 3.7V, 1100mAh Li-ion cell that fits the MetroPCS HWM835-R smartphone. It replaces OEM part numbers HB4J1 and HB4J1H. The cell measures 54.00 × 43.00 × 5.00mm and matches the original connector and BMS handshake.

  • HWM835-R fit: The HB4J1 and HB4J1H share the same voltage rail, physical footprint, and BMS communication protocol on the HWM835-R. Swapping between these two OEM part numbers does not require any hardware modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through charge and discharge cycles on the HWM835-R. The BMS accepted the handshake without error flags, and the fuel gauge IC tracked state-of-charge within normal tolerance after one full cycle.
  • First-cycle fuel gauge reset: On first use after installation, disable fast charging and run one complete discharge-charge cycle. This lets the fuel gauge IC recalibrate its coulomb counter against the new cell's discharge curve before high-current charging is applied to an uncalibrated cell.

Sudden shutdown at 20–30% on the HWM835-R after a cell swap

This happens when the fuel gauge IC is still calibrated to the old cell's voltage-to-capacity curve. The new cell hits a steeper voltage cliff under modem or screen load, and the phone interprets that drop as a hard shutdown threshold rather than a percentage read. The OS thinks there is charge remaining, but the cell cannot sustain the voltage under peak draw. One full discharge down to automatic shutdown followed by an uninterrupted charge to 100% recalibrates the coulomb counter and eliminates most of these events.

USB charging not detected on the HWM835-R after battery replacement

A newly installed cell with a slightly higher internal impedance can cause the charge IC to stall handshake negotiation on the first connection. The phone may show no charging icon even with a known-good cable. Disconnect the cable, wait 30 seconds, then reconnect — this resets the charge IC negotiation cycle. If the issue repeats, check that the battery connector is fully seated, as a partial connection raises apparent impedance above the charge IC's acceptance threshold.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why does my HWM835-R show 25% battery and then shut off without warning after putting in a new cell?

The fuel gauge IC is still running the discharge curve from the old cell. When the new cell's voltage drops sharply under modem or display load, the phone hits its hardware shutdown threshold before the percentage reading catches up. This is a coulomb counter calibration problem, not a faulty battery. Run one full uninterrupted discharge to shutdown, then charge to 100% without interruption — the IC recalibrates against the new curve and the sudden shutdowns stop.

The battery percentage on my HWM835-R jumps around erratically after I replaced the cell — is something wrong?

Nothing is wrong with the cell itself. The fuel gauge IC learned the old battery's impedance and self-discharge profile over hundreds of cycles, and that data no longer matches the new cell. The erratic readings are the IC trying to reconcile real-time voltage measurements against a stale internal model. One complete discharge-to-shutdown followed by a full charge to 100% gives the coulomb counter enough data to rebuild an accurate state-of-charge map.

My HWM835-R gets noticeably warm near the battery during the first few charges after a replacement — is that normal?

A new cell has higher internal impedance than a cell that has been through several charge cycles. The charge IC pushes current into that higher resistance, and the extra energy dissipates as heat. This is most pronounced in the first three to five charge cycles as the cell's impedance drops toward its rated value. If the warmth is uncomfortable to touch or the phone triggers a thermal warning, stop charging and verify the battery connector is fully seated — a loose connection raises impedance further.
