Sudden shutdown at 20–30% on the G2 after a cell swap

The G2's fuel gauge IC stores a learned discharge curve from the original cell. When a new cell goes in, that stored curve no longer matches the actual voltage profile of the replacement. Under modem or screen load, voltage drops faster than the gauge expects, and the phone cuts power before the displayed percentage reaches zero. One full discharge-charge cycle at standard rate forces the coulomb counter to re-anchor to the new cell. After that cycle, shutdowns below 25% typically stop.

G2 not powering on after the battery sat in storage

Li-ion cells discharged below 2.5V trigger a BMS lockout to prevent cell damage. A G2 battery stored flat for months can sit below this threshold, leaving the phone completely unresponsive. Connect the phone to a wall charger — not a USB port — and leave it for 20–30 minutes without attempting to power on. The charge IC will trickle current into the cell until it clears the BMS lockout threshold, typically around 2.9V, at which point normal charging resumes.

My G2 feels warm near the battery compartment while charging the new cell — should I be concerned?

A new high-impedance Li-ion cell generates more heat during the first few charge cycles than a broken-in cell does. The charge IC on the G2 pushes a fixed current into a cell that initially resists it, which produces noticeable warmth. As long as the phone stays warm but not hot to the touch, this is expected and fades after two or three full cycles.
