Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Tait TP8100 Series — 7.4V Li-ion Replacement Battery (TT35L1-D)
This 7.4V 2600mAh (19.24Wh) lithium-ion battery replaces the Tait TT35L1-D and fits the TP8100, TP8110, TP8115, and TP8120 portable two-way radios. It also covers additional TP8100-series variants sharing the same connector and BMS handshake. Compatible OEM references include TPA-BA-100, TPK-BA-101, TPK-BA-100, and T03-00011-CAAA.
- TP8100 series compatibility: The TP8110, TP8115, and TP8120 share the same 7.4V power rail, physical connector, and BMS communication protocol as the TP8100. One battery format covers the full platform — no variant-specific firmware or lock-out applies.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through full charge and load discharge on TP8100-series hardware. The BMS accepted the charge cycle cleanly and held the voltage threshold required to sustain transmit current without triggering overcurrent cutoff.
- First-insertion contact check: If the charger dock shows a fault LED on first insertion, remove the battery, wipe the gold contact strip with a dry cloth, and reseat firmly. The TP8100 dock requires a clean contact cycle to complete the BMS handshake before charging begins.
Why the TP8100 cuts out mid-transmission on a new battery
New lithium-ion cells ship at storage voltage — typically around 3.6–3.7V per cell, not full charge. When you key the PTT on a freshly inserted battery, the transmit current spike can pull the pack voltage below the BMS overcurrent threshold before the cells have been fully conditioned. The radio interprets this as a fault and interrupts transmission. Run one full charge cycle before field use — this brings both cells to 4.2V and sets the BMS baseline for accurate voltage-threshold monitoring under TX load.
Bar indicator showing one fewer bar than expected after fitting this pack
The TP8100 uses a voltage-threshold bar indicator, not a capacity-counting chip. At storage voltage, the resting cell voltage maps to a lower bar tier than a fully charged pack. This is not a fault with the battery. Charge the pack fully — target 8.4V across the pack at charger termination — and the indicator will read the correct level on the next power cycle.

Frequently Asked Questions
My TP8100 drops to reduced transmit power mid-shift — is this a battery fault or a radio fault?
This is almost always voltage sag under sustained RF output, not a radio fault. As the pack discharges under repeated PTT cycles, cell voltage drops enough to push the radio into a lower TX power tier to protect the final amplifier stage. Check the resting voltage with a multimeter — if the pack reads above 7.0V at rest but sags during transmission, the cells are at end-of-life and the pack needs replacing.
The charger dock blinks a fault LED and never starts charging — the battery is brand new.
The dock fault LED usually means the pack voltage is below the charger's acceptance threshold, or the contact strip isn't making a clean connection. Remove the battery, wipe the gold contacts with a dry cloth, and reseat it firmly. If the fault LED persists, measure the pack voltage — a reading below 6.0V means the cells have dropped below recovery threshold during storage, and the pack will need to be replaced.
After sitting unused for three months, the TP8100 won't power on with this battery fitted.
Extended storage allows lithium-ion cells to self-discharge below the BMS recovery floor — typically under 2.5V per cell. When the pack drops that low, the BMS locks out to prevent deep-discharge damage and the radio shows no response. Place the pack in the dock for at least 30 minutes; most Tait chargers apply a low-current pre-charge to recover cells down to around 2.0V per cell. If the dock accepts the pack and begins charging, let it run to full termination before inserting into the radio.
